Which optic for .460

alex4922Which optic for .460
A friend of mine recently bought a .460 as an insurance policy while fishing in bear country. He has an issue with his master eye due to a previous viral infection. He had asked my advise for picking an optic of some sort to help him sight better.
My initial response was that a red dot of some sort would be best. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Alex

Redhawk1Ultra-dot. But for bear protection, I would go with open sights. JMHO.
If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one.

WhitworthI agree with Redhawk. Up close and personal emergency work would be best served with open sights. A red dot would be great if it is a hunting rig.......

GrumulkinActually, if a bear was close enough to be an imminent threat, you probably wouldn't need any sights at all.

alex4922Yeah, that was also my thought. They say that by the time you realize you have a problem its almost too late. Probably clutter up the draw and make it tough to tote too.
Thanks, Alex

Yup, but that .460 isn't a svelte holster gun either. What length is the barrel?

A couple months back, a fella came into the shop asking for a laser type sight for the same scenerio to use w/his Alaskan.
It made me wonder just how quickly one can pickup the smallish spot of red light on an incoming angry 400lb ball of fur?

You will not see a red laser spot in the daytime until the bear has hold of you!

And the red you see may just be in his eyes

alex4922I should have asked the barrel length Whit. He mostly favors 6-7 1/2 inch lengths on handguns. I'll ask
Thanks Alex
