A friend called and asked me about Magtech 44 Magnum 240gr SP ammo.
He does not reload, has a 44 Mag rifle and handgun and was wondering if it is good ammo and suitable for deer and pigs.
I actually have a box but I have only shot 15 rounds at the deer lease at cactus. It seemed OK, but I hate to recommend it baised on the small amount shooting I have done with it.

jwp475I have shot the Mag Tech and it is decently accurate. I have not tested the bullet in any manor on game or otherwise.
The Mag Tech 240 grain JSP chrono'ed at 1189 fron one os my S&W 44 mags and 1269 from the other S&W 44 MAg, both with 6 1/2" barrels.
The Mag Tech 240 grain FMC Flat point chrono'ed 1190 and 1250 respectively from the 2 revolvers.
At these speeds I would expect the bullet to hold together, but like I said I have not tested them

Thanks for the info.
I usually recommend Federal American Eagle 240 JHP, Winchester 240 SP white box for good quality, economical factory shooting ammo.
This Magtech stuff does have an attractive price.

Also, I would be intrested to see continued accuracy and chrone results between the two S&W 44 Mags, with different ammo.

WhitworthI don't mind soft points and hollow-points for deer, but I don't like 'em for pigs -- much more densely constructed and I have seen them fail on hogs -- and not very big ones at that.......just my two cents......unsolicited of course......
