Heavyweight SWC in 44 Magnum
I had noticed several manufacturers making
bullet and/or bullet molds in SWC configuration
ranging from 290 to 310 grains. How effective
are these bullets on big game (hogs in particular)
and what level of accuracy could be expected
on 50 and 100 yds with tuned loads. Thanks.

Don't know what kind of .44 you are using but my Smith&Wesson M29 6" shoots the 300gr. Hornadys real well except high. About 4" high @ 50yds. but right on the money @ 100yds. That's about as far as I will shoot with open sights. That is with the rear sight all the way down. Think the Speer 300gr. bullet with it's flat nose might be better but doesn't shoot that good in my Smith. The Lyman #429421 cast with wheel weights and a little tin shoot great on paper and game. Have differnt loads for this bullet.....small, medium and large if you will. All shoot great so I seldom use jacketed bullets in the .44. In fact, seldom use J bullets in any of my pistols.

the lyman 300 grain swc cutter with 20 grians of 110 shoots into 2" at 50 yards with my scoped super blackhawk. I have killed two bear and one whitetail with this load and it worked great. I have now swithed this load to a 340 lfn ballisticast mold. same power charge. Its just as accurate. In the case of the 300 every animal the bullet gave complete penatration.

I would venture the opinion that a hard cast bullet is what you want for a hog. With such a think gristle plate you would want as much penetration as you could get. The SWC is an inherently accurate bullet so should shoot ok for you. I know mine from Redline are very good. For light skinned animals like deer, I prefer jacketed bullets. They have worked good for me. But the debate goes on. Slim
