KedronLil Gun and Taurus Tracker 41 magnum
I decided to work up some full power loads for my Taurus Tracker 41 magnum using Lil Gun, remingotn large pistol primers and Hornady XTP's. I used the data from the Hodgdon website and worked up 50 Rds from their listed starting load of 20.5 grains and going up to their listed Max of 22.5. The first five starting loads had to be knocked out of the cylinders with a chunk of wood. I did not think it was prudent to go any further. Has anyone else used this load data? What were your results? Seems strange that the starting loads would run so hot.

Palladin8I have used lil gun for some heavy 45LC loads and didn't have a hard time extracting until I got up to the max load. I have never seen it at a starting load. Kind of odd that it would be at a starting load like that.

p dog shooterI have a hard time using max loads in my TI 41 also I normaly shoot them a few grs under max and then they well not stick in the chambers.

MS HitmanI recall having heard of higher temps generated by Lil Gun and a more pronounced throat erosion. Anyone else heard of this?

larrysKedron, I would check the chambers. In my Tracker the chambers are tighter to begin with. I had some loads worked up for my Model 57 and Blackhawk and wanted to try them in the Tracker. No go. The chambers were just that much tighter. They would just barely not chamber. I resized some once fired brass and as long as I made sure the die hit the shellholder completely, I was fine. I didn't have to worry so much about it in the 57 that Jack Wiegand built for me or the Ruger.
With the slightly smaller chambers, you may not be able to work up as high as you would in another gun.

KedronI wondered if the chambers might be a little rough and or tight. Some people describe spent cartridges falling out of the cylinders and I've never experienced that. Even my plinking load of 8 grains of universal needs to be extracted. They don't stick but there is resistance there. Can the chambers be safely polished for easier extraction? It seems like it would be a pretty simple procedure.

tiggertateMy experience with Lil Gun in 22 Hornet, 458 SOCOM and 500 Linebaugh is that it is very forgiving until you approach max, then pressures get spikey. I would guess that your starting load is a chamber/sizing issue rather than pressure?

bfrshooter12 shots from a Freedom .357 with Lil gun turned the barrel into a soldering iron. I could not touch it. The balance of the can will go into the .410.

larrysKedron, I know it can be done and Brownells sells the stuff to do it, but that is where I send them out.

WALKER8@I had to send my tracker 44 back to taurus because the rounds would fire form into the tool marks in the cylinder. It only did this with heavy loads of h110. They replaced the cylinder and had the gun back to me within 3 weeks, no more problems.

Woodrow SPD shooter...be careful using hot loads in that TI revolver. Thats asking for trouble. I have a TI 4" BBL 45 Colt and only shoot mild loads thru it...not even close to what I shoot in the Rugers. TI is strong and elastic...but it ain't Ruger strength.

KedronIn the spirit of fool hardy tampering I attempted to ever so slightly polish the cylinders with a drill, a snug fitting cotton bore brush and a little rubbing compound. I only made a few passes at each cylinder. I reassembled and took it to the range and found I could now fairly easily extract the lil gun starting charge. My loads of universal and 2400 now fall out as others had described. The next step up with Lil Gun resulted in stuck cases again.I might try a finer polishing compound.
