back up pistol for boar knife hunting
i professionally guides and hunts boars and after years of carry 44mags and 357s i now carry a glock 40sw model22is very easy to shoot ,most of the bullets dont exit so i have few possibilities of injure a dog and if i need more stopping power a rapid sucesion of double taps stops all carges.what do you think about this.juan pablo pozzi

It sounds to me like it's working for you, Juan. Go with it.

even a 22 will work if you are only feet away. A 40 S&W sounds like a smart choice. I think Ted Nugent uses a Glock 10mm for this purpose, which is close to being the same thing.

Ouch!!!

That hurts a 10mm fanatics heart to hear something like that. A 180 grain .40 S&W clocks about 950fps, the same bullet out of a 10mm clocks 1300 fps. But your right in that they are the same diameter. I've shot a couple of critters with a .40 S&W with poor results. It never punched through the other side. The 10mm will punch through the other side at medium ranges. That being said, the .40 S&W is probably better with dogs chewing on the hogs!

Sorry recoiljunky, no offense intended.
I was/am under the impression most commercial 10mm loads were loaded mild or atleast not loaded to full power.

Thanks to the FBI for screwing with a great cartridge. That was the birth of the 40 S&W, because they didn't need the full powder capacity to obtain the velocities in the reduced loads.

use what you will but i have a buddy who also runs a hog hunting bussiness. He got 70 stitches in his leg from a hog that came at him after being shot with a .41 mag jhp. He finally put it down with his 500 linebaugh but not before it got to him. To my way of thinking if your guiding your main resposibility is to your customer not your dogs. Id want the pig stopped and id use at least a .44 mag with a heavy hard cast bullet and the best tool would probably be a .4570 with a well constucted 405 soft point. They put them down right now! Pigs arent that hard to kill weve killed them with .41 specials with cast bullets but when someone is in trouble id want some serious firepower.

I think you should have more respect for the boar, than to be shooting them with such an... ugly gun.

well I have both and prefer the Glock 10mm,,,,but I am not hunting with lotsa dogs involved, You can go with a fast expanding slug for the 10,
