Trigger/action work for Redhawk .44
Hey Men,

I've got a .44 Redhawk (traditional Redhawk) on the way and intend to get the action/trigger slicked up. I was thinking about using Bowen, but I hear he is backlogged. Anyone have any suggestions for someone who can do the work for me?

Much appreciated

Teat Hound,
I picked up a 44 Mag. Redhawk in a store recently and tried the action. The actions smoothness suprised me on double action and single acton was a bit heavy for my taste, but broke crisp. When I asked a friend, who is a RUGER fanatic, he said they improved the actions when they came out with the GP100 (?). I would try the action first and see also what happens after a box of shells go down range. I like and collect the older N-frame S&Ws and have a few that the actions are like silk and was still impressed with the Redhawk action and will probably buy one also in the future. Hope your pistol comes from the factory with as slick a trigger as I felt at the store.

Google "Actions by T" on the internet. He has a gruff demeanor, but is traight forward and honest. He is in the Houston, Texas area.

Jack Huntington does EXCELENT trigger work give him a call @ 530-268-6877 and his prices are resonable

I have a friend who's had two redhawks tuned by mag-na-port, and the action is absolutely buttery smooth, I have yet to handle any DA that had a better action.

Hamilton Bowen is worth the wait...call him.
All three revolvers on my Avatar are the end product of his workmanship.

Just like BillIntheWild stated... Bowen's work is worth the wait.

I have owned both Bowen made revolvers and Huntington built revolvers and Jack's best work takes a back seat to NO ONE

I have a custom Redhawk done by Huntington and a buddy who's gun was done by Mag-Na-Port. The work of both is great but the trigger job by MNP is little better.

I've had Ahlman's in Morristown, MN, do some S&W revolver work and their pistolsmiths are better than the guys who work for S&W in Springfield, MA. They are reasonable, quick, and really, really good.

I have a GP100 that I bought new. After the initial evaluation - 100-200 rounds - I was considering new springs and stoning the action myself. I've successfully improved the triggers on about a half dozen guns so far. I never got around to it and kept shooting the GP. Once adequately broken in, the double action pull is still a little heavy but really smooth and provides accuracy on par with my Glocks, which I shoot in competition. The single action pull is excellent. I know that Bowen and others work magic on these revolvers, but stock might prove satisfactory if you break it in.

New (lighter) spring is a cheap place to start. I did so recently with my 45 Colt RH, it improved it enough for me.

The SBH, after the poor-man's trigger job, is usually a VERY nice trigger. The SRH also sem to have better triggers than the RHs, for whatever reason...

Still, for factory triggers, S&W still shines, especially the PC...
