Brandon.Gleasonvent rib on a BFR?
While meandering a few local shops Saturday, ran across a BFR (long cylinder, didn't stop long enough to get a look for caliber) with what looked like a raised vent rib atop it. Think trap gun vent rib. Was this a factory thing? If so, what practical purpose do they provide? Had a $600 price tag on it, was almost tempted to take a closer look just due to the price!

WhitworthSomeone must have had the rib added by a gunsmith. To my knowledge, no BFR ever left the factory with and sort of rib. Should have snapped a photo!

None, other than making the owner smile and his wallet a little lighter.

Lar45It's for the 410, 7.5" bbl only. The 45/410 will also chamber a 454 FWIW. The throats are rather large, something like .468". Inspite of all that the gun does seem to want to shoot. I have the 5.5" bbl one, but kinda wish I had bought a Judge instead.

bfrshooterThat would be fun to shoot the carpenter bees with but expensive for each shot.
the .410 loads cost too much but I do reload them.
The .410 should be a smooth bore but the gov thinks it is dangerous to have a short shotgun!!!!!
You can make a pistol first and turn it into a rifle but you can't turn a rifle into a pistol.
Stupid gun laws should all be tossed out.
