I think you could safely get 1400 with that bullet.I would want more velocity for big bears .

I shoot a similar bullet out of my Taurus. What is your barrel length? I use WC820 and my best accuracy range came in around 1350fps. I'm sure I could drive them faster, but I'd rather have the better accuracy. I'm loading 26gns WC820 and 24gns 296 gives about the same velocity from my 6.5" bbl. The Taurus does have the porting, but it is still comfortable to shoot.

30.0 grains of H110 in a 7.5" 83 will put you around 1,600 fps (pressure approaches 60,000 CUP however).

I think I will try for 1300+. I was thinking about 24 grains of lil'gun since I already have it.



I just am not sure that a few F.P.S. is anything to worry about. Not to low though with the gas check.



I do plan on getting some different powder though. The Hodgdon manual shows that H110 gives lower pressure with bullets heavier than 330grains.

If you plan on shooting lots, then I would suggest ordering up an 8# jug or 2 of WC820. It's about $8 a lb and works great in the 454. I really like this powder.

Unfortunately, due to Hazmat charges, milsurp powder runs closer to 20$/lb by the time you get it shipped up to Alaska, unless you order 12-16 kegs, at which point it drops down in the $12-13/lb range. If one could get buddies with cash in hand to make up a group order, it would be a great deal. Otherwise, one just lives with what the gun shops charge for new powder, and be thankful we don't have to pay non-res hunting fees, nor travel costs to get up here.

The local store here has a sign that says "to keep things simple all powder is $24 a pound".

There is a store here that sells IMR rifle powder for 18.75 which is the lowest I have seen in years.

Jeff Bartlett sells WC820 new for 56 bucks for an 8 pounder and the pull down powder for 48 dollors. I don't know if there is an additional hazmat charge to Alaska, but if not, that would make it about eight fifty a pound. Not bad if there is no extra charge. Jeffs site is www.gibrass.com Good luck. I loaded my last 50 rounds of 340 grainers with 25 grains of Lil'gun. Time to practice.

If you are shooting a FA revolver you are loaded very light. I have load data from John Taffin that shows FOR FREEDOM ARMS REVOLVERS ONLY a max load of 32.0 gr. of H110 behind a 340 gr. NEI hard cast. I shoot a 355 gr. LBT LWNGC in my 10" FA using 31.5 gr. H110 for 1700 fps. However, I cannot stress enough that this may be dangerous in any arm other than the FA revolver. Even at 32.0 gr and 1720 fps (accuracy was not as good as the 31.5 gr. load) the cases fell from the chamber under their own weight. The start load for H110 in the FA revolver behind the 340 gr. bullet as indicated by Taffin was 22.0 gr. for 1200 fps.

I am shooting a 6.5" taurus raging bull.

I'm also shooting the 6.5" Taurus. My best accuracy came in around 1350fps. I did a test on different nose shapes in the 340gn range for accuracy.
