300 Win Mag Encore
I know, I know I am being sadistic but I am thinking about something big in an Encore for elk. 300 Win Mag, 338-06, 30-378, something along those lines. Any thought or suggestions? I will consider all opinions except for the one that suggests I see a shrink Slim

I'm with you! I have a 308 encore and a 444 marlin contender,neither are quite enough.
I was thinking 338 or a 300wsm.A 338 ultra mag would be fun but is there any way to get the most out of a 16" bbl?

I have been in contact with J.D. Jones at SSK Industries and he says that the .300 WSM is to much pressure for the Encore. The old regular .300 Win Mag being of smaller dia. is safe in the Encore. Slim

You might consider the 35 whelen or an improved version. My standard whelen gets 2400fps with a 225grBT in a 15"bbl..Also very accurate. Or, SSk has a 358 which makes at least 2600fps.

I have a Competitor 375 JRS MAG with a 16" BBL this is a 8mm Remington Mag neck up to 375. This gun shot just as good as my 308 Win. So I think a 300 Win would be a good one just don't forget your muzzle brake

I just ordered a 35 Whelen barrel from Bull-
berry , it should be ready by next spring.
I`ll let you know about the performance then!
Since it is very similar (almost identical)
to our 9,3x62 ,I`d expect it to be a very
good Big Game round , with excellent pene-
tration capabilities/ballistics.
Why would you punish yourself with those
Mega-Pressure rounds that you cannot use in
a 16 " barrel ??
I know that bigger is better , but only to a
certain point and that is (my opinion !)the
30-06 case volume and pressure , in a handgun
with a fairly short barrel .

I've got a 15 3/4" barrel in 470 NE coming from Virgin Valley sometime next week. It's got a brake on it and I'm also getting a "Recoil Tamer" grip built by Denzel Roberts. I'll let you know how it shoots if it doesn't kill me first.
