375hnhLeupold/Gilmore?
A friend of mine asked me to post this. He has a Ruger super redhawk in 454, and is looking at red dot scopes. What is the opinion of the Leupold/Gilmore red dot? He was a bit concerned after reading on their website, that they recommend two sets of rings on anything 44 on up. Any input is appreciated. thanks

BER007375hnh,
I'm very happy with my Bushnell trophy red dot with my Desert Eagle .50 AE.

sharps54I had a Gilmore on my 458 Lott rifle for a while an it did fine. A friend had the same model on his Desert Eagle in 440 Corbon and the scope came apart in two shots, it seemed the threading was screwed up and all the caps flew off! They replaced the scope but said that over 44 mag they recommended three rings. We think the second scope was a factory defect.

HcliffThe Leupold has one of the better internal guts. They use a gold coating to get the best electical connection on the board. The dot have been sharp on the one i have looked at. Extra rings just help dissappate the recoil if it is a red dot or a scope. That is why JD Jones uses multi ring on his hand cannons.

BigDogMKI have a Leupold on my 629 Classic. Absolutely no problem. The previous red-dot (a Millet) shook itself silly in about 50 rounds.

bobthenaileri had a lg35 it was ok but was not parrelex free
, only has a 1 year warentee, and the knob for dot brightness is on the right side of the scope, making it arkward for right handers , however you can reverse it and use windage for elevation ect. my personal recomendation would be a aimpoint comp with a 10 year warntee or a doctor sight or possibley a redfield esd , lifetime warentee i currently have 13 red dot sights and have owened most brands ,

bobthenailersorry i forgot i had the lg35 on a fa 454 and i called leupold and they sent me a free set of extra rings. however the 454 has worn a aimpoint comp xd for 3 years now with around 1500 rounds through it with nothing less than 300grgc at 1450fps. i think that is a pretty good test for the aim point

TBTI've got Leupold/Gilmore's on 2 .44's, a .357, a .22 rifle and 2 X-bows. Only had one of them messed up (wouldn't zero) and I sent it to Gilmore in Tulsa, Oklahoma and they fixed and sent it back, no problem. I even dropped my S&W 629 from my 10 foot quad-pod and it landed on the scope. Didn't hurt it and didn't shake the zero either! I was amazed. There may be better ones on the market, but I'll stick with my Leupolds! They have discontinued it though and sooner or later will probably have to go straight through Gilmore.
