357 herrett
Where can a person find any information on or for the 357 Herrett.

The Hornady and Sierra manuals have basic cartridge info in the intros. What specifically did you want to know?

Yes, try the Hornady manual.

The best load I've worked up is with IMR 4227, CCI 250 Large Rifle Magnum primers and Hornady 158 gr. XTP bullets. This load gives me 1 to 1.5 inch groups off the bench at 100 yards and works for Black Wildebeest.

Mine liked AA1680 and a 200 gr hardcast bullet. Velocity from the 10" tube was just shy of 2000 fps, and accuracy was quite good.

Look for articles by Dan Bower on the 357 Herrett at this web site:

http://www.handgunhunt.com/

I sure wish I could find all of the old articles from Milek and Herrett on both the 30 and 357 Herrett.

I couldn't find any of my great articles by Melik for the .357 H, but there was a pretty good one by Dick Metcalf in the Shooting Times HANDGUNS of 1981. I'm sure it was a reprint from the magazine.

I wish they'd put out a book of Melik's stories like they did for Skeeter Skelton.

LeonardC.......

Thanks for the info:::: I am still looking at several manuals. I am interested in shooting cast in the 357 Herrett. I will be limiting my shots to 100 yds or less and only open sights, so it will be a challange,,,,thanks

I never "understood "the purpose of the 357 Herrett. My Contender in 35 Rem. will do everything the Herrett does in a stronger case, and more.I guess the only advantage is the Rim.but I have no problems with the rimless case.

Some folks just don't like to use rifle cartridges in handguns, guess that's why they built the 357 Herrett. Anyway it works and I see now problem using it. Some people like-em and some don't.

Do a search under Bob MILEK. There's plenty of his work out there -- and it's good stuff, too.

See now you confused me more.being as the 35 Herrett is based on a 30-30 which as far as I know was meant for RIFLES!!!! BOOMMaybe you are thinking of something else?????

I am not slaming you,,,You post things that make it sound like you are the ONLY one who knows anything.!!

Yes I know the difference between rifle and pistol cartridges. Tell Thompson Center that and see if they start laughing. They make barrels in 10,14,16,20,24 inches for the 357 Herrett, and the last time I checked the reg's, a rifle has a barrel 16" or longer.
OH, I am sorry, Foxridge supplies the barrels for TC thru there custom shop!!!!

i shot a .357 herret in a 10" tc for a production gun shooting IHMSA silhoutte... best i ever did was maybe a 30 out of 40... not the gun's fault, it was mine... the t/c was persnickity as far as case lenght was concerned.. and cases had to be fire-formed to really work good... i didn't spend enough time to do it right... im planning on rebarreling a junky '94 winchester to the .357 herret...just something to play with... i remember using a 200 gr sierra spire point bullet.... it would shoot under an inch at 50 yds, recoil was pretty stiff....

I and my cohorts did a bit better than jimatcat at shooting IHMSA using the .357 Herret back in the mid-eighties. Was a great deer gun in a tree stand too.
