electronic hearing protection
I am thinking about purchasing a set of power muffs and would like to hear about some of your experiences with the different makes of them that are available. One of my big questions is how they work in the wind say when it is blowing from 15 to 25 mph. I am interested in all of the pros and cons of any brand so if you have experience I would like to hear about it.

5shot,

I have the Peltor Tac 6. Compact and lightweight. They are small in profile so they have little if any contact with your rifle stock. I have had mine for about 5 years. I haven't used them in the wind, so I can't say anything about that.

Regards,

Terry

I have a pair of Peltor Tac-7, and like them a lot. In heavy wind you just have to turn the volume down a bit. Very comfortable when wearing them for a long time. I have never used my regular muffs since I bought these.

I have a pair of Silencio Rangesafes I think they aer called. I love them. I havn't used my regular muffs since I bought these. In the wind they are a little annoying because you really hear the wind, turn the volume down and you're usually OK.

I have a set of Tac 6, 7, and a Game Ear Power Muffs of the three I like the Game Ear PMs' best. They fit me better then the Peltors and I like the atinuator controls on each ear. The only thing I don't like about all of them is what I call "forest noise". The movement of the wind through the leaves and branches of the trees sets up a kind of static "white noise" that will lull me into sleep in a very short time if I don't keep alert. They are all good equipment that I use for different things I mostly take the set closest to hand but if I take time to choose I'll grab the Game Ears.

I have a pair of the Remington brand that i recently purchased. I have tried some of others and picked these for their comfort level and the features. They have the mic located in the top middle of the ear piece and flush. This helps quite a bit with the wind noise that you get from these things but does not eliminate it. I also like the individual volume adjustments. They are compact for easy stowing in a back pack and have a detent in the volume adjustment that prevents them from getting accidentally turned on. Most Wally Worlds have them (i found out after i bought mine [Roll Eyes] ) and are priced around $100. [Mad] I bought this pair exclusively for hunting and like them so much that i use them anytime i am shooting!!

I have the Tac-6 that I just got for Christmas and like them a lot. I have some of the early camo electronic type (can't remember the name right now)ones, but they are heavy for all day use. My daughter uses these. For shotgun or 22 stuff, I also use a Walker's Game ear and love it. It goes anywhere.
