Does anyone have any experence using this as a hunting gun? I have a 44mag and a Contender in 7-30 Waters, so dont need the "this would be better" posts. Just looking for a more compact, lighter handgun to carry as a rifle/handgun combo for whitetails.

I've been a fan of the 10 mm for sometime. With the right bullets, it has a reputation for working well on treed black bears, for instance. Unlike the 40 S&W.
The only problem with the Glock would be the lack of accuracy, if that matters. I've never seen one that shot under 2 inches at 25 yds. Most of them shoot 3 inches, or more.
I understand they have a much better than original trigger these days. By all means, get that. A first class trigger is what is always in first place on any of my hunting handguns. E

I've used my .401 Bobcat on deer with excellent results.......I've also found the Hornady 200 grain XTP to be a strong performer. I definitely recommend trying it in the 10mm Auto.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. It's basically a 41 Mag Lite, and therefore should be equal to any reasonable sized whitetail. - Dan

My brother took a very nice whitetail buck with his 10mm Glock. One shot in the head did the trick.

Well guys, thanks to 7x57 I have decided to pass on the Glock, I think I,ll deer hunt with my Browning Buckmark!

I've killed two hogs with my Witness Compact in 10mm. In both cases the 180gr XTP's blew through the hogs with ease leaving a nice exit hole and the hogs expired pretty quickly.

I give the 10mm a thumbs up.

Of course 25 yards is the practical limit with 50 yards being the outside limit with the sights offered on the 10mm autos.

I use it as a "backup" hunting sidearm rather than my primary hunting weapon unless I'm in heavy brush for hogs or deer.

If you want a REAL hunting handgun get a scoped Contender in 375 Winchester... It'll take anything on this continent but may be a bit anemic for the big bears.

There are many other excellent chamberings for the Contender that will do the job too...

I use the Glock G20 in some field conditions where I want to carry a handgun. I think the 10mm is a reasonable chambering for field conditions. I have used the 4" S&W M29 in the past but feel the revolver is a little bulky and extra ammo is a little cumbersome. The G20 carries well in a Yaqui. I tried the G29 and did not like the balance. Also tried other manufactures but felt Glock met my requirements the best. I have a pair of G20's and am impressed with their accuracy. I have not shot them from a rest, only standing freestyle. I have a preference for the compensated model.

I would not choose the 10mm as my primary hunting handgun chambering. However, I think the 10mm ranks at the top of the list for a carrying handgun in the field. I have a preference for semi-automatic handguns and believe the G20 10mm offers the most efficient carrying package of accuarcy, power, and speed.

If you are serious about hunting with the G20, get the 6" hunting barrel for it. I've got one for mine. It's pretty accurate. Also try ammo from Texas Ammo Company-it's a bit more powerful than "normal" factory 10mm rounds.

You can get both. Mine's the Glock part. It's not ported, but you really don't need porting on a 10mm! Maybe a .454

If you want to shoot pure-lead bullets get an aftermarket barrel. But the Glock barrels tend to give a bit more velocity.

Oh, www.glockmeister.com has them, but the stock barrels from them are $180 Ouch! I got mine for about $120, direct from Glock (they had an order form in one of the Glock Annual Magazines that they put out once a year).

Rumor has it the 6" barrel was manufactored for a G-17L-like target gun that never got made, so there *might* be a limited suppy of 'em. Just a rumor, though.

I have not yet taken any game with my 10mm Glocks. Still waiting for Mr Piggy to meet Mr Glock. For a lightweight, compact, reliable, and powerful semi-auto it is hard to beat a 10mm Glock. 200grs @ 1200fps X 10 from a G29 or 200grs @ 1350fps X 15 from a G20 with a 6� barrel is not too shabby. BTW, my 200gr Beartooth WFNGC with a .310 meplat going 1200fps will penetrate about 80% of what my 44mag 629 Mountain Gun would do using a Lyman 429421 with a .280 meplat over 21.0grs of 2400.

I read an article in an archery magazine a couple of years ago about Ted Nugent bow hunting in Africa he also had a Glock 10MM which he killed a wart hog with at 100 yds.w/regards
