jlo86cjLooking for reco on 629 load
I've been shooting 240gr Black Hills factory loads in my 629 Stealth Hunter for a couple of years now, but since dusting off my reloading equipment, I want to try some of the 300gr hard casts.
The majority of my hunting will be 100yd max shots on whitetails and hogs. I've got my short list down to Cast Performance's 300gr WNFP-GC, or Oregon Trail's Trueshot 310gr WNFP-GC. (both sized at Ø.430"). I have a few pounds of H110, so I'll most likely be starting with it.
Any comments on primers or good H110 loads for these two that wont beat my Smith to death? Also, any other bullets out there I should look at?
Thanks,
Jimmy

MS HitmanSpeaking from experience, you won't need to run those 300 grain bullets much faster than 1,200 fps to be effective on your intended prey. Cast Performance has load data on their website, so you can start there. If you have access to a chronograph, that would help also.

ncooperMy pet load is a Keith 240 gr. ahead of 22 grains of 2400. This is a cooker and will take anything anywhere anytime. I also shoot this load in my 5" Redhawk underarm carry while fishing Alaska streams. Lyman reloading books reduced load for the lead bullets shoot one ragged hole at 50 yards through my guns.

mike7mm08I have a Model 29 classic. I have been using cast performance 255 grain wfn. For deer or pigs I don't see a reason to pound your pistol with anything heavier. I am running 22.5 grains of 296 and a cci 350 with these bullets. This load is extremely accurate and very managable recoil. My pistol has a 6 5/8" barrel. If you really want to go heavy and fast I would buy a single action like ruger. They like to be abused a smith and wesson will not take heavy loads for very long.
if you are going to use a 300 grain bullett with hodgdon 110, 18-20 grains is the load and it is not recomended to go below 18 grains of powder and hodgdon says to use a mag primer with 110
