Looking for a .22 plinker, which one ?
Looking for a .22 plinker, which one ?
Looking for something to put in my tackle box or carry when wade fishing, might shoot a squirrel some time.
Was looking at a Tarus 9 shot stainless revoler (289.oo) and a Browning buckmark, (229.00) I like auto loaders, they are fun to shoot. but, I want to hit something also.
Which one, or do you have some other suggestions.

David ThomasRuger MK II or Ruger 22/45. Simply the best 22 auto for the price with a ton of after market stuff available. check out tactical solutions pac-lite - it is a aluminium reciever and barrel for the ruger that reduces the weight to near nothing. 6" barrel 22/45 under 1.5 pounds.
The Buck Marks have a good reputation also.
S&W also makes a 10 shot revolver.
A revolver gives you the benefit of shooting ra/snake shot if you wish. I still prefer an auto though.

I bought a Smith & Wesson 10 shot revolver while I have had good luck with there 6 shot 22's the 10 shot was a inacurate expensive piece of junk. I cant believe I acually said that being a die hard S&W fan.

bfrshooterRuger Mark II without a doubt. I have owned as many as five. I have two left. I love the stainless slabside and recently shot a 10 shot group from Creedmore position by firing as fast as the sights aligned. It measured 1/4" verticle by 1-1/2" horizontal AT 50 YARDS. I use CCI Blue Tag hollow points.

MS HitmanI've not owned a Mark II, but the ones I have shot have been fun. I prefer the Single-Six in stainless. Mine rides well in the front pocket of my waders.

KingfisherI really like the Mark II's / 22/45's and those are going to be my first recommendation, but I'm also real fond of the single six's and I think a revolver would be more conducive to the environment you're talking about.
How about a Ruger Bearcat in stainless? Good hunting!
I have a Ruger Stainless Target MK II. it's accurate and reliable. I've shot lots of stuff with it, snakes, squirells porcupine, ....

Pecos41Ruger .22 automatic. Easily the best choice. This one is a no brainer.
I wouldreally like a bearcat but how do you adjust the sights?

Swede44magDan Wesson 10" VH SS the most accurate 22 pistol I have.
They are too expensive new I bought mine $450.00 2nd hand. It used to be a single shot silhouette but I converted it double action.
As most people will agree, the Ruger MK II. Mine is the SS Target Version but the shorter barreled ones that I have shot have also been very accurate. Although I must say that I have always wanted a .22 revolver with a 6" barrel. Slim

You may not need to. Just test different ammo (starting with with the cheap stuff) until you find one that shoots small groups to the sights at 50 feet or 25 yards. If a good load shoots lower than like you can carefully file the front sight to bring the point of impact up. I'd completely certain my grip was perfect before worrying about windage, but a wee bit of left or right adjustment can be had by filing the rear sight notch. There are other tricks too, but most of them make gun owners and serious shooters a little queasy. I've been thinking a really skilled smith could even solder a very small base to the barrel for a dovetailed front sight if needed. So, I made the mistake of having my daughter handle a Bearcat at a gunshop the other day...now she and her brother think I should get one. Good hunting!

BAREFOOTThe Bearcat is hard to beat as is the Mark II. I have both, and my son and daughter both like to shoot the Bearcat. My Mark II is the slab side target and I love it as well.
I also agree just try many ammo types to get it to shoot. I have three of them and the all shoot to site with something.

4bambamIf you want a S-ST 22-a Ruger KMK Mark 11-4in. or-5.5in. will fit in you're takle box and has Adj-sights. I have the KMK Mark 11-6 7/8in slab side they are excellent pistols.

Taurus BillI bought a base line Buckmark for Christmas. Paid in the low $200s and that included a spare mag. I bought it mainly for plinking/small game shooting, but used it last April in a 50 ft fun match at the New York State National Guard weapons team championship and took second place. A lot of rugers were there and also a few higher end types. If you like the Mk II, add $80 to the price so you can have a good trigger.

If that was a 617 return it to the factory with a note of explaination of what it is doing. A friend bought one and it too was apiece of junk. Terrible trigger pull in both SA and DA, spitting lead out of the cylinder gap. He didn't get back the same gun...they destroyed the one he sent back and sent him a new one that had an action job right out of the Performance Center. And they payed shipping both ways....Bob
