I've read a articles on the S/W model 29 saying that it doesn't have a strong enough frame to shoot heavy loads in. If this is true can anyone out there tell me what the maximum load would be for this gun.

Think you need to purchase a loading manual from one of the bullet manuf for a max.load. As for how strong is your Smith? Don't know, but I have put at least 3000 cast thru mine and it's going strong. Not as tight as it once was but not too bad either. You really don't need to shoot max.loads all of the time.

Basically, you do not want to exceed factory 240 grain loads. Your model 29 will last even longer if you load slightly under these levels. The loads that shake model 29's loose are the hot loads first developed by steel silhouette shooters and some hunters. These loads usually drive a 240 to 320 grain bullet at maximum pressures.

As mentioned earlier I agree that you don't have to shoot max loads through it all the time. My favorite target load is 7.4 grains of Bullseye pushing a 240 grain, hard cast, SWC. There is no reason that you can't shoot max loads in your Model 29. It is just that it will stay tighter longer if you don't do it all the time. So try practicing with the light loads, shoot the heavy loads occasionally and have fun. Slim
