Getting my revolvers back

Having some trouble connecting with a firearms dealer where I sent my 45 revolvers for engraving. They (US FIrearms) left a voice mail today asking for my dealer's information so they can return them.

What's the best way for them to ship these back to me?

I'm not a dealer and have no FFL.

Does Kalifornia have some law that requires firearms being shipped back to their original owners from a gunsmith or other service center to go through an FFL?

Sorry - I need to update the address. I now live in Texas, and know of no such law.

They should be able to ship them directly back to you...no need to go thru an FFL holder at all. FED-EX, UPS etc can be the common carrier to ship the guns to you.

I'm in agreement with Woodrow. I've had work done by Colt as a manufacturer repair item and sent guns directly to them and they sent them directly back with no third party FFL required either way. UPS and FedEx were the shippers, but it had to be done only from specific locations rather than just any branch store.

I also know the post office allows long guns to be shipped directly by a non-FFL for repair to an FFL holder like a manufacturer and I know they routinely do handguns if it's from an FFL to an FFL. But the part mentioned about non FFL shippers using the post office on handguns, I was under the impression is a no-no.

You are 100% correct. An individual MAY NOT ship handguns via USPS-PERIOD. A licensed manufacturer or gunsmith may send you your guns back via common carrier, UPS, FEDEX NOT through the US mail.

I did not check the link, but if that is the case, then the Post Office has changed the regs. Several years back I sent a Smith to the factory for topstrap tapping and drilling for a scope, and I used the US Postal Service, both to Smith and back to me...

Bottom line is that I would simply have it shipped back to you common carrier. I do it all the time for repairs.

The laws and regs are very clear. Individuals may not ship handguns through the mail period.

It has been that way for at least 10 years since I had a C&R license. I believe it has been the law for way longer than that.They provide C&R holders with all the paperwork that they provide to FFL dealers even though they don't apply for the most part.
