MS HitmanWe're okay!
No power or water, but I now have a phone line and generator power. No damage to the house, but things got rather sporty when the eye passed close to us. We're all okay and just hanging out until things get better.

CatmanduHe called me on his cell phone last night. It is extremely difficult to call into MS. Still no power and he is not sure when it will come on. Still no running water. He has a bunch of bottled water. He and the family took a bath in the rain a few days ago. He saved roof runoff to flush the toilets. The real kicker is he can't get gas. He had to drive a few hours to Monroe, LA just to get some. There are not extra portable gas tanks anywhere. It wouldn't matter anyway. The generator runs a deep freezer, a fan, and a lamp. He's 3 hours north of N.O. It just goes to show there are LOTS of people affected by this.

hikerbumToo bad Jesse Jackson crawled out of his hole today and is stirring the racial pot again. Hopefully all people jsut pull together without causing grief. I think the finger pointers could cause more delay in getting relief than anyone.

McCluraGlad you're okay. I just returned from from Slidell, LA. I have been there since the day Katrina hit land. I work for Oklahoma Gas & Electric and took 20 Transmission lineman and a mechanic down there to restore power lines along with about 2000 more linemen from other parts of the country that we worked with in this area.
We stayed in Baton Rouge. Worked Covington, Abita Springs, Mandeville, Slidell, Hickory and Pearl River. We rebuilt the large steel tower lines that carry transmission power to all of the substations that provide power for the local areas from Bogalusa and places in MS. We left yesterday and 40 more of our people arrived there last night. They will stay 20 days and we may trade out.
Hope all is well down there. It is a mess but the people that live out in the rural areas don't seem to be as stressed as the people that lived in the cities. We had to use dozers and chainsaws to cut new roads every where we worked just to get to power lines.
Glad to be home.
Mike

MS HitmanThank you!!!!
A line crew from Kentucky got us back on line. Without people such as yourself, we'd most likely still be sitting in the heat and dark. We're out in the country and things are less stressed as you say. The children thought it great to take showers outside in the rain. Just a big camping trip for them.
