Lar45Range Finder??
Who makes a good range finder for a reasonable price? Something that works good out to 600yds or so? Mine is many years old and only gives readings out to around 300ish unless it's a building.
TIA

bfrshooterWe are limited to the milliwatts of laser power. So it will depend on the sensor. Price goes up with sensitivity. None have more laser power and you will still find no readings with certain targets. It still depends on the target sending back the light to your sensor.
Every thing we buy must be "eye safe." Not exactly right because most cause damage but we can not buy military grade.

AK CasterI am on my 4th one over the last 12 years or so. About 5 years ago purchased a Leica that goes to 800 yards. Since buying the Leica have no reason to consider another.
Worth every penny of the $500 it cost. You occassionly see them used at a better price. Grab one if you can.

Lar45Wow, I wasn't aware that they were so reasonably priced.
You said it goes to 800yds, is that in real world stuff, animals, trees, rocks...?

Yes, I think the only difficulty was trying to laser things on water or ice.
Trees, critters, you name it, it works. Also doubles as a sort of extra bino if yours ever breaks.

Keith1I have a Leica LRF 1200 and it's great. Last fall I ranged a pickup truck at a little more than 1200 yards and it worked fine.
Regards, Keith

Did you shoot it? What with? One shot kill?

bfrshooterPeter, that is funny!

Reflective targets send back light but anything that absorbs light has to be closer.
You can see what I mean if you use a red laser on a gun in sunlight and need reflection.
Light from the range finder MUST be reflected back to the unit. Even the best and most expensive have laser limits set by the Gov or Kaliforinica, they are afraid we will stare into the things! No, you can't see the infra red light but it is there. OK for an 18 year old soldier to have power but not for us. We are too stupid to use light but can shoot bullets. They will end that soon too. Next will be hammers because you can hit your thumb! Knives will be plastic and scissors made out of play dough. Pliers can ruin your finger if you put it in the jaws and SQUEEZE like mad!
Be prepared to be able to knapp flint.

I have the same one and my only complaint is the size of the reticles. They are too thick for my preference and make it hard to pick out game animals in low light. I have settled on the 'open crosshair' reticle but I prefer the range finders with thinner reticles.
