Has anyone came across any opinions on the Bersa Thunder 380, I'm considering buying one for my wife. I've heard they are a great buy for the money.

Some years ago I had a Bersa 380 (I'm not sure the model name). It fed reliably. It was not very accurate, but I suppose that does't really matter. I also had to replace the firing pin after about 300 rounds - it broke. Anyway, just my experience...

This is the handgun hunting section.I have used a 380 on a few woodchuck,squirrel, and feral dog.It's performance convinced me never to use it to defend my life.Since there are now some excellent small 9mm pistols such as the Kahr I think 380s are obsolete .

My brother is a gunsmith at a factory warranty shop for Beretta, Bersa, Remington, etc. and he says that he sees an awful lot of them coming back for repairs. Now that may be because someone is selling a lot of them, but he feels that he sure doesn't see many Berettas, Colts, Smith & Wessons, etc. coming back in...so he would not bet his life on a Bersa.

I can only relate my experiences. I have a Bersa 383A which is an older model of the Bersa Thunder 380. It has proven totally reliable and to date has had a couple of thousand rounds of ammo thru it. I've used everything from S&B, Speer GD, Silver Bear, Remington and Corbons. I carry Corbons and practice with the cheap Silver Bear. As far as accuracy, mine shoots into 2" - 3" at 25 yards consistently with the Remington 102 grainers going sub 2". The trigger is nice and smooth in DA and the SA is fairly light with some creep. My wife and I both shoot it very well and it is my carry gun in warm weather. If your wife can shoot one first that may help in your decision. Good luck....RW

Bought one for the wife- but I seem to carry it an allful lot. Nice reliable piece. I have not had an jams /FTF's . Nice light gun with light recoil. For the money a great buy! Some say the .380 is no good for SD, I say that's bunk!! My carry ammo is reload 115 gr GD and they punch some nice holes for a "9MM". My normal carry is .45 ACP.
