Hello,
What is the difference in diameter of brass made from 45-70 cases verse Star-Line.

If the Starline is the same as Hornady .
It is listed as 475 is .540 and the 45/70 is listed as .608

I read in Hamilton Bowen's book that it was done for Freedom Arms guns. Is this a problem in guns made by John Linebaugh?

475's built on Ruger blackhawks and bisleys use an oversized 5 shot cylinder that can handle a 45-70 dia rim, and a COL of 1.80", which works out to a 1.40" case and a bullet that is .40" from the canalure to the meplat.

Jack Huntington was the first to convert FA mdl 83 454 casulls to 475 Linebaugh. Since the FA cylincder is both smaller in dia, and shorter than the Ruger based conversions, the rim dia had to be reduced to that of the 45 colt, and bullets had to be shortened to .37" from the canalure to meplat, for a COL of 1.77".
