<xp100hunter>Need Your Opinion
I am going to put a rifle scope on a specialty handgun (6.5-284). I am looking for a quality variable, somewhere in the 6x24 magnification range. What would you suggest and with your suggestion what is the eye-relief at it's highest power (or at 24 power if it goes higher than that)?
The XP will have an 18 heavy barrel with a H-S Precision center-grip varmint profile stock. Unsure whether it will have a brake or not. At this time the plans are to not brake it.
I know that I will get my sight picture, then have to pull back before I shoot. I don't want a scope permanently sticking out my left eye

Mule SkinnerI have a Baush and Lomb (now Bushnell) Elite 4000 6-24x40 on my .22-250 Ruger Varmint Gun. It has served me well for about 5 years now. I also recently bought a Weaver Grand Slam in 6-20x40 for my .25-06 Sendero. They are both excellent scopes at reasonable prices. The eye relief is more than adequate on both.

<SlimL>XP100 Hunter you know as well as I do that you can't beat a Leupold.

John Barness, whose opinion I trust rated them right up there with the Zeiss scopes. When you put that much effort into a firearm the last thing you want to do is under price the scope. My rule of thumb is that the scopes on my quality firearms will cost probably just as much as my firearm. But that is just me. I do have a question for you though. I am just starting to hear about the 6.5-284. I know that Sinclair just started handling Hornady's brass for it. Is it a good round? Is it the same as the 6.5 X 45 that I have heard about? Slim

<Poppy09>Sir, I have a Burris 3x12 on one of my XP's, mounted on a rather high-rise mount. (makers name escapes me) Set on 3 thru nine I have no complaints, but at the higher settings it is useless to me. Old eyes I suppose. I used a friends 10X and was pleased with it, go figure. GIG'EM AGS....... Jim

<xp100hunter>I have a couple of the Burris LER 3x12's. I have on order a Burris 6x24 Signature. I guess I will see how it works.
