MHC_TX.460 Rowland Load Question?
I just purchased some 255gr Hard Cast Flat Nose bullets from Underwood Ammo for my .460 Rowland.
Underwood lists the .460 Rowland 255gr with a MV of 1300fps
I would like to be able to duplicate/handload this combination myself. Does anyone know the receipe and a source for the 255gr Hard Cast Flatnosed bullets?
Thanks!

JiriBest velocities what I know from .460 Rowland you can get with IMR 800-X powder.
Source of bullets: Beartooth Bullets
Check this threat of .45 Super loads:
http://www.glocktalk.com/threa...0-g21c.197490/page-9Internally .45 Super and .460 Rowland brass are the same (if made by Starline).
I personally load 250gr HC FP (epoxy coated bullet for .45 Colt, .451 sized) bullets to just ~1160 FPS and 750 ft-lbs with powders available here (VV N105 and Vectan SP2). Just waiting for supply of 800-X to try.
BTW if interested, look at some loads I developed:

DoublessMHC, fwiw, I have loaded and shot the 255-grain (nominal) Lyman 452424 in several 1911-style pistols. There were no feed issues at all. At one time, I believe the Speer loading manual listed loads for that projectile.

JiriDoubless: There are no reloading data for .460 Rowland in Speer manual (what I know).

Thank you.
BTW it looks like
www.glocktalk.com is down (now), so here is the backup of .45 Super loads:

MHC_TXLooking at ordering the 255gr RNFP from Beartooth Bullets but I'm not sure which diameter bullet to order. They list a .451, .452 and .453 sizing diameter. Any recommendations for the .460 Rowland?
Thanks!

I'd strongly suggest having your barrel slugged.

Craig GMHC,
I have always had great luck with lead, .452, most any premium lead bullet and all of my Clark Rowland and Super barrels. I have stopped with lead and the Clark comp arrangement, as I really hate the lead and fouling buildup that I get at the end of the barrel/bottom of the comp, juncture.
Slugging would be good, but bear in mind that the .453 might reduce your freebore jump, and give higher pressure. I also play with .451 in a couple of my Supers, and have no problem. I would be very careful, if ordering .453.

MHC_TXI talked to Underwood Ammo and they use/load the 0.451 diameter in their 255gr .460 Rowland load.
Thanks again for all the help.

Craig GMHC,
If I were commercial loading the Rowland, I too would lean towards .451. Like I noted, even .452 can be tight in the freebore or not even chamber in a tight chamber.
As to source, Beartooth is a great place, and Marshall is great people. But sometimes they can be a little behind on orders. I found Rim Rock Bullets a year or so ago, and I have been using them exclusively for these type of bullets. They too do .451 and .452, and I have never placed an order for anything that was not shipped next day, in my hands within 4 days or so. With RR, you also have the choice of hardness.

JiriI use .451 sized bullets now (as recommended by many Rowland shooters) . I tried .452 sized from the same company too. Not a problem at all, but .451 are easier to load and the shape of loaded round is better.
