Hi all, I just heard from Magnum Research that they will be introducing a BFR in 500 S&W sometime this spring. My money will be on this one instead of the S&W. My 45-70 BFR is terribly accurate. 5 into 1.75" at 50yds with open sights. They didn't say whether it would be on the 45-70 size frame or a smaller one.

I'm not at all a BFR's fanatic. But I can act like you, in preferring the BFR in .500 S&W Mag instead of the S&W.

I hope Mag Reas. will create a new frame between the normal cylinder and long Maxine.

I will be happy to see the result. In this case I'd prefer a SA revolver than a double action.

I have received a reply from Mag. Reas. regarding the frame size on this new model. No news will be communicate before mid spring this year. And the guy adds "hopefully" mid spring. Because they only produce all the BFR revolvers once a Year. Wait and see.

Cool! I'll be getting one of these unless it's the same frame size as the .45-70's. That's a bit too big, really. But still 1000% better than a S&W.

Thanks for filling us in. I bet those will be cheaper than the S&W!

Dealer price from RSR is going to be around $770 for the BFR is 500 S&W, The Smith&Wesson Model 500 is going to be $673 with a Performance center version at $990. Markup will be high and availablity low until the used guns start turning up.

Hey guys fill me in whats wrong with smith and wesson? I have a model 28 .357 4" N frame , shoots great and i've never had a problem with it.

question, I am wondering if the BFR is really another gun that has been made for years and chambered in the 45-70, and that magnum research just bought the company and now calls the gun another name?..I know they bought the desert eagle, and then they bought Ordnance technologies and their cannon breech ss-86 pistol....anyone know?...bob

Magnum Research bought the D-Max Corporation which for years produced the .45LC/.410 Sidewinder as well as the .45-70 revolver.

I've heard that Ruger casts parts for the BFR. Is there any truth to this?

Many of the parts are interchangeable to include the backstraps, pawls, triggers, hammers, etc.....neither side will admit though that they're produced by Ruger. It may just be that the design/dimensions were copied by D-Max.

I believe smith is supporting the feds in tighter handgun regulations
magnum research does not sell to law enforcement that I know of
their sales are to normal every day citizens who enjoy fine made firearms
I for one am a big fan of magnum research products and am considering a bfr if I ever see one for a decent price
