DougH9Pointed 44 Cal. Revolver Bullets
I just read over at the reloading forum about the new Hornady pointed lever action bullets. I went to their site, and noticed that they have a 265 grain bullet for the .444 Marlin.
If it fits, that would be a awesome bullet for my 9.5" scoped Super Redhawk!

johnchIf intended for the 444 ,it may not expand if shot out of a 44 unless pushed hard and at close range .
I tryed the 265 gr SP out of my 7 1/2" Redhawlk .
The bullet expanded little if at all and the double lung hit was a 150 yd SOB of a track

ReconoPointed lever-action bullets? for .444 Marlin? Is the Birdman involved? Sounds like something you would use with Homeboy sights.

DougH9Go to Hornady.com and check it out. The tip is soft enough to not light off primers in a tube magazine.
Johnch-Thanks for the info on the 265 grainer. If it becomes availible, I would do extended-range expansion tests with it, like I have done with the 300 gr. XTP.
Even if it is to tough for handguns, it would be a great long range plinker bullet!

I go with Recono it may work but I won't risk it fingers and arms don't grow back very well.

Rusty MarlinThey are made with a soft low durometer poly tip that deforms under recoil but springs back so it maintains excellant BC's (over traditional lever gun bullets). Hornady is Marketing them under the name Lever-evolution.

Tell about your 300 grain XTP tests and results either here or to avoid hijacking the thread on a new one of that title.

DougH9Louis, I wanted to see if the 300 gr. XTP would expand at 200 yards, a distance that I can hit decent at, prone with a rest. Gun is a scoped 9.5" Super Redhawk; the load crono'ed right around 1,400 fps. My friend got a block of Duct Seal (about 5"x5" square), and we put it on a hill side, lazer rangefinded at 200 yards. I fired 5 shots, and got 2 right into the block. The other 3 (and one my frind fired), went into the soft dirt right next to it. All recovered bullets expanded. The Duct Seal ones had a perfect mushroom, the dirt ones had opened, but not folded all the way back.
I was trying to decied whether to use lead flat noses or expanding. If the expanding would not expand at long range, then I would be better off with the LFN. But since they do expand, I will use them.
The new Hornady looks promising. Should shoot flatter, and shave some elevation come-ups off of the 300 XTP.
