<gone hunting>10mm for small deer & hogs
i have a S&W 1086 that i shoot real well. i'd like to try it on maybe a doe or 100lb hog this year. for the last year or so i've been shooting the Remington 165gr golden sabar loaded to 1425fps. would this load work if i keep the shots inside 50yd and only takeing still broad side shots? or do i need to work up some 180gr @ 1300fps or 200gr @ 1200fps loads.
i can shoot 4" groups at 50yds from about any field position.
anyone else use a 10 on deer or hogs?

ScottBBallistically, it looks to me like a hot 357 or mild 41 mag, and the conventional wisdom I've heard is that a solid lead bullet is more desireable for hogs over a hollow point. I don't know about deer, and I've yet to get a hog. But that's why I went with a 454. That and the nasty muzzle flash, loud bang and the strange looks at the range

<DOC>You may want to look at a hard cast lead bullet. Try
www.beartoothbullets.com. A 200 grain WFN at 1000 fps doesn't look like much on paper, but I think you'll find it will work better on hogs than a middleweight JHP.

<gone hunting>i have a good supply of 200gr gas check TC hard cast bullets that i load at 1200fps.
how about this same load for 120lb or less deer. i'll keep shots at hogs to 25yds or less and deer under 50yds.
i'm not deluded into thinking a 10mm even close to ideal for hunting but this is my favroite handgun. it has a RPM barrel, Bomar sites and was tuned up by Novak's.
a real dream to shoot.

Gone Hunting,
I would not be afraid to take a deer @ 100 yards with that 200 grain @ 1200fps. I dropped a nice 175lb 8 point with a 210 grain Rem JSP @ 1350 from a 41mag at 100 yards. The bullet punched through both lungs and never expanded. The old boy went about 90 yards and keeled over dead.
