0.475" cleaning jag?
I have been using a .45 cleaning jag and a .410 shotgun brush on my .480 SRH. I was wondering if there is a brass 0.475" handgun jag available anywhere for a tighter patch fit....

Anyone found one? I have looked ;(

Thanks.

I could not find one either so I had to make my own. Maybe it would be a good idea to bend a companies ear a little.

Wrap a patch around the brush for a tighter fit.......... thumb

Here's a list of Pro-Shot jags. I sure don't see one in .475.

If that is the wrong page, can you provide a link or part number?

Thanks.

John I appologize, I thought I had purchased a 475 jag but now remember that it is a 45 cal jag that measures 0.420"

I had the same problem as you (I have a super redhawk in 480) and looked everywhere.
I purchased a few jags and it is the largest 45 cal jag I found.
I still have to use two patches. If you cut your own patches out of heavyweight t-shirts then you only need one patch.

I bought a .50 brass pistol jag at Sportsman's Warehouse and just now I turned it down 0.025 inches (to 0.425 inches OD, approximately) using a drill press and a file. I cleaned it up with 400 sandpaper and it works dandy with one regular patch. Took me about 5 minutes.

Hmmm, I think all I've ever used on my .480 is a 50 cal brass brush. Since I only shoot cast, it's all I've ever needed to clean it out. That and a 45 jag to pass clean patches to get the misc crud. I think there are at least 4000 rounds through mine to date.

I do have a small lathe and some 1/2" brass stock, so jags have never been a problem Big Grin
