doubledown.44 Speer 270 gr. deep curl ?
Just wondering if anyone has used these bullets on game and how did they perform? They are supposed to be bonded and very accurate, I just dont know anyone who has used them in the field. I like Speer bullets as they are cheaper than most of the others, and accurate in most of my guns. The 270's are $28 a hundred, not bad if they work.
I have a couple of model 29's, but will also be loading them in a lever gun at about 1500 fps.

N E 450 No2I have used the Speer 270 in their factory load, and it is very accurate. I have shot a couple of pigs in the head and recovered one bullet. It held together well and expanded a proper amount.
They used to call it the Gold DFot even though is was a Soft Point, not an HP.
I am not sure if it is the same bullet they are calling the deep curl???

Dick ThompsonNot sure if the "Deep Curl" is the same as the old Gold Dot but the GD has an excellent reputation on game. I've used it on elk with great results, expansion & complete penetration. Mine was shot with a Ruger SRH 44 & 17 grs of 2400.

David CraigSpeers Deep Curl is basicly the Gold Dot with a heavier jacket. I have used the .357 170grain Deep Curl on whitetails and it has performed great. Last deer I shot was approximatley 70yds and broadside, deer broke at the shot and ran about 30yds before pileing up. The bullet was a little high but hit the top of the lungs and made a complete pass through. I like the bullet for whitetails and animals in this class. Gun used was a 8" Colt Python.

Bill/OregonI feel so sorry for Speer, the ignored bastard child of the ATK complex. ATK has paid very little attention to Speer since acquiring the company, and Speer's product line is suffering from lack of innovation and lack of proper marketing. Very little marketing of the very good Deep Curls. e.g..
