The "Off The Shelf" loads for the 45 Colt from Buffalo Bore, Grizzly Ammo, and Double Tap are certainly not "Anemic" in fact they are quite "potent". BB loads a 325 grain LFN @ 1350 FPS and in my 6" barreled 45 Colt this load nudges 1400 FPS.. clap
Now those are not store bought, Wall Mart loads, but hunting loads for modern Rugers, etc. Something not picked up down at the local gunshop. I can't call them "off the shelf." Rem, WW, PMC and Fed will never load to those levels. I consider them "Custom."

WhitworthDoes "commercially available" make you feel warm and fuzzy inside??

Not sure about your location but I've seen them in quite a few local "Gun Shops" and Cabellas and Bass Pros Shops

DoublessMarko, you and JWP both know exactly what I was talking about, just like BFR. I will stand by my original statement. No aggravation here, just a bit disconcerted by you fellows not agreeing to admit to what you both knew I said being the truth...
The standard what I called "off the shelf" loads are loaded down so they will still be safe in the first generation Single Action Army Colts, among other things. We all know that. Additionally, if you handload, you are aware that there are typically two sets of 45 Colt data in the manuals: one for the older firearms and one for the Rugers and T/Cs.
I am with BFR... The three loads that JWP referred to are all custom loadings, as far as I am concerned.

jwp475Call them whatever you want, but they are readily available to any one that wants/needs them. One doesn't not have to be a reloader to get excellent 45 Colt ammo with power aplenty.
Superior Ammo is what I call a Custom load as they will load your load or whatever you ask for.

It's definitely more than the .44.
The only way the 45 Colt eclipses the 44 Mag is with stiff handloads worked up in modern revolvers. The "off the shelf" stuff for the Colt is typically pretty anemic, as BFR has already stated.
Not disagreeing, just clarifying...
Of course we are talking handloads here. That said, a trip over to Buffalo Bore's website and you will find a number of great and lethal loads for the venerable .45 Colt.
Like I said before, I agree that most off-the-shelf loads are anemic at best, but there are some great high performance offerings from a number of ammo manufacturers.
Oh, an you can get them from Cabelas as well.......
