BFR 500 S&W

Hello

I am thinking about getting a BFR 500S&W. I have had two Smiths and both had problems with auto indexing with heavy loads. Have any of you heard of any problems with the BFR 500 S&Ws?

Mine was very nice. Obviously, you have to be very careful with scope mounting, and the factory trigger left a bit to be desired, but the pistol was very accurate and reliable. I only sold it because my tastes changed.

The one I have coming has a serial number starting with BR. The dealer says it is a brand new gun they received a month ago.

I was just concerned about the heat treat issue on older guns which seems to be in question.

Did you see my heat treat comments on singleactions? Evidently there never was an issue. Those guns are hell-for-strong, so don't worry, you will be well-served.

I have the BFR in .500 S&W and love it! Some don't like the long cylinder but you'll never have to worry about a bullet jumping crimp and tying up your revolver. Plus you can load the heavy bullets out extra long and pretty much match a .45-70 Guide gun in velocity if you feel extra froggy! It sure does ouch though! Like Whitworth said, they are VERY accurate, strong and built to last! The BFR may be the only revolver to match or even surpass the .45 Ruger Blackhawk for the most bang for the buck in a big bore. It's a fine machine indeed!

You may find that your 7.5" is really an 8.125" barrel. Mine is. I don't know if they still do it but it was apparent to me that they measure from the end of the frame to get their barrel lengths. I bought mine in 2004 I think. My serial number begins with JT.
