Whitworth.445 Super Mag ballistics
I posted this question in another thread, but here it goes again. Does anyone know what kind of ballistics factory loaded .445 Super mag is capable of? I can't find anything posted anywhere. Has anyone played with this round and handloaded it? Debating buying a Dan Wesson in this caliber. Thanks.

MS HitmanI've loaded this round since the time we were making cases form .303 Brit. At first I tried hot-rodding it, but that wears thin when you get the metallic taste in your mouth each time you pull the trigger. These days, I shoot 36.0 grains of AA1680 behind a Sierra 240/250 silhouette bullet. Not a hard load on the revolver or myself.
The advantage of this caliber is being able to shoot "firewall" .44 Mag loads with out punishing the revolver.

445_supermagI posted on the other thread but agree with what MS Hitman stated.
Basically you can get about 200 FPS over what a 44 mag can do. As I also stated before the interchangeable barrels are so incredible that you can change from a primary hunting firearm to a secondary sidearm with a twist of a wrench.

Rusty MarlinI believe the .445 is a pure hand-loading proposition. Could be wrong, but I've never seen it offerd on this side of the Atlantic.

HHI6818I'm shooting the same load as MS Hitman and the 240's are running 1700+ FPS. Some reloading manuals list 2000FPS but I don't want to try those loads. I have a friend that shoots the 445SM with a load that I woun't repeat and he says it kills at one end and wounds at the other!!!!!

Max503How difficult is it to form 445 cases from 303? How do I find the procedure?

MS HitmanThere is no need to these days. The brass is available from Starline. We had to cut the brass down and inside ream the neck. If was a lot of work.
