What will you be using this year?
Well, deer season is just about upon us. What will you be using this season? What revolver, what load/bullet, etc.?

I will be using my BFR in .500 JRH with an Ultradot 30 strapped on. The load is a 440 grain truncated cone hardcast (designed by bfrshooter) on top of a stiff charge of 296.

I will continue to use my 14" Contender 7-30 Waters with a Burris 3-9X. Last season it was deadly on deer and hogs, and the hogs have already seen it work this year.

Reeder full custom 455GNR in the Ruger Bisley Hunter platform w/ a Leupold 4x scope. It's the 475 Linebaugh necked down to .45 caliber. Load is 35gr H110 and a 250gr XTP for deer and the 300gr Sierra soft point for bear(load not yet determined). Basically, 454 Casull performance without the stiff recoil and high pressures.

454 casull, question is will it be the 10" or the 7.5". i have loads tailored for both, the 10" i run barnes 250 gr hollowpoints at anywhere from 1775 to over 1900 fps depending if it's the federal or the doubletap loads. in the 7.5" i have a load i'm pretty pumped about, it's a beartooth 340gr load at 1500fps, very easy recoil, shoots flat, and is very very accurate. love to give it a shot this year. then i have the alaskan which will back me up bowhunting and i will use for hogs when bowhunting for deer. it's a great load of the beartooth 280 grain load with a very large meplat bullet at about 1300fps out of the alaskan using hs-6 powder, very very manageable and reliable.

I have a 3-inch Model 36 -- it's obviously a vastly more effective tool for the job than a 2-inch J-frame.......

Marko, I would strongly urge a more secure method like a regular scope mount and screws to hold them! Just in case you need a second shot, which, in your case I'm sure would not be necessary.
Peter.

I'll be using my Freedom Model 83 454. I have for some odd reason gone back to my old load of a well constructed 260gr jacketed flat point and 36gr of H110 and a small rifle magnum primer. I think this load performs far better than really heavy cast in my gun. I say in my gun because of the flack I usually get about how I should be using cast or something else.

I personally think expanding bullets work great on deer.

Andy, how fast does that load run?

Good question. Either will use my Freedom Arms 454 with a Trijicon Red Dot or my BFR 475 Linebaugh with a 2x Burris. Decisions, decisions....

Darn near 2100fps! It is a handfull! I have also loaded 37gr of H110 and it will break the 2100fps mark. I contacted Hodgden and Freedom about the 37gr load. It was listed as a max load but did not specify barrel length. I found out it is for a 7.5" barrel. Mine wears a 10" barrel. No pressure signs to worry about. I am still considering sending the gun to Magnaport for some relief from the muzzle flip...it is unpleasant but not unmanageable.
