im taking my s&w 629 to maine this year for deer.what would u suggest 240 g speer softpoints or 240 g hardcast /gaschecked semi-wadcutters. both shoot the same point of aim with iron sights at 25. yards. not my primary firearm using rifle. thanks brian

bfrshooterI believe the Speer is a tougher bullet then the 240 XTP and should give good penetration. I will not use an XTP under 300 gr's for hunting in the .44. I would still be wary of a bone hit with the Speer.

As much as I love hard cast bullets, and use them almost exclusively now. I used a lot of Hornady XTP's, and they worked great on deer sized game. Even going through the scapula (shoulder)of the deer. I never had a bullet fail to reach the vitals. Also the Nosler Partitions are a good bullet.
