vonfatmanI just purchased a .357 Contender Barrel...a couple questions...
Thanks.
I got a great deal on a new .357 barrel for my Contender last week ($100.00 out the door).
I bought it to use as a test gun for my .357 re-loads but ALSO to hunt deer with from close range.
I'm looking for some suggestions for some hunting loads I might try. I will be hunting whitetail on my farm from very sturdy paltform stands with solid guard rails/gun rests.
I intend to keep my shots w/in 50yds since I'm using open sights.
I have W-296, H-110, Blue Dot & Unique on the shelf but can pick up powder w/no problem.
I have some Hornadya 180gr XPTs and 158gr XTPs on the shelf.
I'd like to hear recomendations and suggestions.
Thanks!!
Bob
Use data from any of your loading manuals for H110 or WW296 under the 180 XTP and you're all set. I use Speer heavy-frame/Contender-only data for 1500 fps on the nose. When you use them up I recommend you try the Remington 180 grain softnose hollowpoint (you can buy them in bulk from Midway and others). Good hunting!

johnchI AA #9 and seat the bullet out long .
I crimp with a Lee factory crimp die
I then can up the powder charge to take advanage of the increased case capisity
Never had a deer go more than 30 yds after being hit
