I just bought a RB 5 1/2" 454, for limited use ( I hope :^))while bowhunting in Alaska . I've also just noticed online on Cabela's website while looking at Buffalo Bore ammo they have disclaimer and they did'nt include the RB in their list for recommended use.Can anybody shed a little light on this? Is this stuff just too hot for the RB?

My shop used to have custom ammo loaded by by them. Their ammo is very hot, sometimes too hot. I have heard it turning a few guns into grenades. I would be very carefull with it in your raging bull. If you contact them, I'm sure they could tell you if it would be ok.

Aaron B: That is a big statement about Buffalo Bore Ammo. Could you give any actual examples of the Ammo blowing guns? Not saying you are wrong but if this did happen someone needs to know about it for sure. Especially Tim Sundles. I am aware of the mag tube detonation with the 45/70 but they have went to small rifle primers in their 45/70 loads and Garrett has also. This keeps the nose of the bullet that is behind in the tube more unlikly to touch the primer of the one in front. Also the primer pockets are deeper too.

Well I'm only a wannabe "fellow Alaskan" right now but I have high hopes one day I can make it up there for good.

For the record, I emailed Buffalo Bore directly after I posted and Tim Sundles has already replied that it is fine to shoot Buff Bore ammo from the Raging Bull. Good news indeed.So it looks like I'll be placing another order with them soon.

HI,I have used Buffalo Bore Ammo in the past it has always been at or above stated velocities 480 ruger-475 linebaugh-44 mag all were above stated velocity.I checked a lot of ammo on my chrony , the Cor-Bon ammo i checked 335gr hard cast .454 casull was under stated velocities by a lot, stated 1600 fps really was 1470 fps.

I own a Raging Bull in 45 Colt...a six shooter, not five. I didn't buy it to shoot those wimpy 'cowboy' loads. But all the reloading books never list the RB along with the T\C Contender, Colt Anaconda, or Ruger Redhawk. So I called the Sierra Bullets techline and asked those knowledgeable folks. They said the RB is just as strong and capable as the others mentioned, go ahead a use the hot loads. So I did and I'm still here to type about it! I think it is a fantastic hunting handgun.

I guess that sounded a little worse than I meant it. I am not saying they are irresponsible in their loadings. In all the cases I can think of there were other factors (old guns, guns not meant for that ammo) I have seen a brand new 629 blown apart but you can never tell if the ammo was at fault for sure. Everyone tends to blame a failure on ammo this is not always the case. My only point was to make sure it was reccomended ammo for that particular gun.
