Ultra Dot Mounts for SW 686
Will the rings that come with the ultra dot be ok on this pistol and what base would you recommend.

I have a 686 here right now that needs a base. I do not want a band at the front around the barrel for the customer. I have been looking at the Weigand or the B Square. No problem drilling and tapping. Does anyone have a good base without that wrap around barrel clamp?

bfr,

If I remember correctly, Leupold makes a base that does not have the yoke on it. It's a drill and tap installation on the older revolvers. The newer ones sometimes come already to mount it.

It is a worry. I have the Loopy on a .44 and rings are close together and will not allow many red dots to fit.
Ruger has rings too close too.

I forgot to mention, the man has an Aimpoint so twist in rings are out.

I'm not happy with aluminum rings, but you might get by with them on a .357.

I've used them without any problems on my .500 JRH BFR (3 rings).

I am still waiting to get the Aimpoint from the customer. I think it has mounts on it for the base but don't know yet.
I never used one, too expensive for me. I have no idea what model he has.

I had problems with aluminum rings on a model 29 not holding zero. Switched to steel and problem solved. I was putting a lot of rounds through that 29 though. 240 cast about 1,000 fps. shot at bowling pins. I've had problems on magnum rifles also.

I used Ultradot's aluminum rings on my .416 Remmie Mauser without problems as well. Odd.
