Sidearm for pig hunting

In heavy brush, where some guys have been knocked down before...

My 329 NG messed up, just from being dropped from my waist to the ground, so I don't know that I trust it for carrying.

Is a 500 any stronger?

Ruger Alaskan?

If those aren't that tough, then I suppose I'll either carry my Glock 29, or get a 1911 in 50 GI or 460 Rowland.

Would a 10MM be able to reliably penetrate enough on a large boar?

Should I look at single-action revolvers instead?

Single action revolver in 45 Colt with good ammo...Garrett's if you don't reload.

45 Colt is an excellent choice. Grizzly Ammo and Buffalo Bore make ammo worthy of consideration as well

How did your S&W "mess up"???

I have carried a S&W 44 Mag through some pretty rough stuff and never had a problem...

Including rain, snow, subzero weather, dust dirt, and swimming it in...

Details, please. I have dropped one of my Super Redhawks out of stands more than twelve feet off the ground and it was fine -- no issues.

I've banged my S&W's around for over 40 years and never had a problem, but I'm referring to all steel handguns. I'd be interested in hearing some details about your problem with your 329.

When I was guiding hog hunters I packed either my Beretta 92 (9mm), or my Super Redhawk in .454 Casull.

I didn't feel under gunned with either.

I've heard pretty good things about the 10mm on hogs and such but a .44 still seems like the best all around choice.

It fell from off my belt onto the pavement, when I was messing w. my pup (teaching him to heel).

The cylinder burred enough to jam the gun...

The action didn't break, but I think the metal, right under the finish, on the cylinder, is very soft - I wouldn't have expected any gun steel to loose that much. Some scratches, etc would have been typical, but the burrs seem odd.

The finish on the gun has scratched up pretty easily, but just on the Al/Sc part.

The nightguard has a stainless cylinder w. some kind of coating - the duracoated Ti cylinder on my 625 hasn't had any kind of wear, even after being carried more, and being a competition gun.

I use to carry revolvers but after running a lot after my dogos i switch to my daily carry glock 40.In my truck is the sw 629 44mag.

A glock longslide model 35 in 40 S&W or a 36 in 45acp, is alway on my side when pursuing porkers.
I can get off a half dozen rounds in the blink of an eye.

WHy is that important, I've always found that a well placed shot negates needing others

About a year or so - maybe two - it took a long time to get the custom grips made for it.
