Of the the three calibers you list, I'd go with the .475. There is no need to shoot .480s in it as the cartridge is quite easy to load down. As stated earlier, components are much less expensive than those for the .500. Penetration with the .475 is better than a .45. I'm not knocking the .45, especially when loaded for a five cylinder revolver. My opinion though is that the .475 is more versatile.

I am thinking about having John Linebaugh build me revolver but I am having trouble deciding on which caliber. Any thoughts?

Hard question to answer as it depends on what you want it for. I have .44 mag, .45 Colt, .475 Linebaugh/.480, and 45-70 revolvers. I love them all and all kill deer with no problem. I can shoot the 45-70 BFR easier then all of them and use it most. The .475 is tremendous on deer and would work on anything that walks. Hornady has brass which is reasonable in price. The .500 might cost much more to reload and is not much better then the .475. Then you can shoot the .480 Ruger in it also. I would get the .475.

I did not know the .480 ruger will work in the 475L. Makes the .480 look like a special. My worry with doing a five shot 45 is mixing up the ammo with my other 45's.
