Hey guys I was looking at getting a revolver in 44mag (some of you may remember my thread asking for advice a few weeks ago) and I am still going back and forth between the ruger, the S&W 629, and the Taurus. I also was looking at used guns to keep the price down, and they had a 6 inch US Arms SA for 325. It was in great shape, looked new, but I don't know anything about US Arms. All the gun said was US Arms, div of A.I.G. abd Abilene, which seemed to indicate the model name.

Does anyone know anything about this gun and if it is a decent deal for the price? I can shoot it before I buy to check its accuracy but I wanted to see if there were any known issues with it that would keep me away.

I would recommend you either get the Ruger, or the S&W.

They have a proven track record and stand behind their product.

Especially the Ruger if you like to load heavy........

I'll drink to that. S&W or the Ruger for the heavier loads. (period)
The price is up, even on used Smith's. I've abused mine well over 30yrs, thousands of rounds and never a problem. Depends which style you prefer. Try'em both.

The history of the partnership split that resulted in the Seville, El Dorado, and Abilene is too lengthy to discuss here, but the Abilene was made in several locations under at least 2 different ownerships (maybe 3) as time progessed. Some were good revolvers. Personally, I would not purchase one assembled during the Mossberg ownership era, as I have seen some lousy ones. They will be marked with the Mossberg name, as well as Abilene. The others? They do have interest to some collectors at the price you mention, however, as a shooter, I would prefer to purchase the Smith or Ruger.
