500 SW BFR
Has any one used the Magnum Research BFR in 500 SW? With heavy bullets and full pressure loads it must be fierce. I would think with good grips and range time it should be manageable. How about longer range performance of this cartridge? How should one of these rods off of a machine rest @ 500 yards group, one foot or less? Cool

I have a BFR in 500 Mag, I shot 370 and 440 gr. bullets all the time out of it. At 100 yards off a rest I can get 3 1/3 to 4 inch groups with a red-dot.

I have shot 575 and 700 gr. bullets out of it and yes it is a handful. I have not done any longer range shooting with the heavier bullets. I stayed within 25 to 30 yards with very good accuracy.

I don't think the 500 Mag is a 500 yard gun by any means.

I would want about a 24-inch barrel for 500-yard shooting....... Big Grin

I would imagine the recoil of the 700 grainers in the BFR would be a real handful. Het Redhawk, when are you going to test your 700 grain loads out to 50 and 100 yards?? Interested in seeing how they shoot!

I am hoping real soon, I have them loaded up, all I have to do is get a bunch of spring stuff done around the house and I will head to the range. I will let you know how it all works out.

OH jeeze, now I have both Redhawk and Whitworth to contend with! dancing Have both of you joined forces? Big Grin
What is wrong with shooting 500 yd's for fun? That .500 should do great after the drop is figured. I have shot the .475 to 500 meters, also the .44 Rugers and the 45-70 BFR.
How about a 26' drop for the 45-70? Yet by aiming at a tree branch with the red dot, I clanged steel on a ram consistantly. Not from a rest either but from Creedmore position.
You guys just don't know how to have fun! fishing

Not true, most of you can do it too, just try it. Marko, we will go to my club and you can see for yourself. Takes a little time to figure drop and find an aiming point but then boolits drop right in there. No way to adjust sights to reach that far. Some open sights will but most red dots and scopes will not. It would be easier if they could, hard to aim WAY above a target. Come and load a bunch of ammo because once you get started I will have trouble getting you to leave.
Be aware we will be shooting 500 meters (547 yards) not yards.

I was thinking maybe a 12†tube, if magnum research would humor me! It would have a scope of course! And I am currently interested in perusing a project a project that involves a rifle scope base which is able to adjust scope angle. I have seen nothing on the market that is calibrated (MOA?) fully adjustable and is not the Leatherwood system. In this case it would be very handy.
