.45 ACP Gold Saber 185 JHP and whitetail deer
I shot a 90 lb doe with a Remington standard velocity 185 grain gold saber today at 20 yards. The entry was behind the near shoulder and exited behind the far shoulder. The bullet penetrated both lungs and exited, with one fragement spinning off and clipping the "tenderloin" under the back bone. Is this typical that large fragements separate in standard velocity Remington loads? The deer had a compound fracture of the hind leg, a needed dispatch. The other part of the story is she didn't drop immediately, hopping away slowly about 15 yards before being neck shot with an 8mm Mauser rifle, finishing her. She turned away from me after my shot and I didn't want to ruin a ham shooting her again.
