500 linebaugh
My 500 linebaugh arrived today.Quick it was built on a ruger super redhawk 44 mag revolver.Built by jack huntington it has 6" barrel the standard 5 round cylinder with the original ruger sights,it was already stainless so that stayed the same and already had the pacmeyer grips.I literally just got home so once i get diner quick my friend is coming over and hopefully their will be enough light to shoot it and get rough offhand idea of accuracy

It is sweet

After the first 5 shots take a picture of your hand and post it.

I want to see the DAMAGE.

What loads do you have to try in it?

i shoot the 475 linebaugh regular so i think it won't be too bad at all

loads to start with will be 435gr L.B.T.-L.F.N 1300 FPS BUFFALO BORE

Better ditch those Hogue wrap-arounds! Get some Hogue Tamers, TBEAR. LOOKS BITCHIN!!!!!! Mine is nearly done now too and will post up photos as soon as I get it.

Did you shoot it yet??!!

DA should kick a bit harder than your .475......

Very cool, TBEAR!

it will get better if i get enough work done this weekend in afternoons might go out and try dialing in better.Talked to jack about gun he had a tighter group off hand at 25 so i know the gun has good potential for more accuracy

Keep in mind that Jack tests with and uses nothing but the 525 grain Buffalo Bore load tha he helped develop.

Nice looking hand cannon you have there TBear.

And thanks Whitworth for the recommendation of the Tamer grips. I bought the Wrap around and I can't stand that hump in the middle. It really stings when I shoot the Hot loaded 400grs out of the .480

I bought the wraparounds before the Tamers and drew the same conclusion! The factory grips are way better. But, the Tamers are just right.......

Dittos. When I first had my 480, I was beating up my second knuckle pretty well, so I tried some of the old style hogues a buddy lent me. I didn't like them at all, way too much muzzle flip. So I went back to the factory grips and learned how to hold the gun so it wouldn't beat me up. Then I tried a set of tamers, they are perfection of the srh frame.

Thanks for the pics, the first one I have seen. Curious about only one thing. Why only the 6" barrel? If nothing else a longer sighting radius should help will accuracy and even allow for the use of some type of muzzle brake should recoil become a problem, with an increase in MV as well. I'm sure there's a reason, but just curious.

A 6" barrel is plenty long for a packing handgun. My .500 Linebaugh wears a 5.5" barrel and is plenty accurate, even out to the 500 yard rams on the rifle silhouette range. Five gallon buckets at 300 yards are in peril as well. Just have to give the front sight a little nudge. Not to mention the experienced handgunners on this forum are not hung up on muzzle velocity.

Packing? As in on a regular basis for personal defense? And you should know by now I'll take all the velocity I can get, whether I choose to use it or not, I know I can get it any time the mood strikes.

Regardless of the vel., I don't believe I want to mess with anyone packing one of those things.
Looks like it might HURT, a lot.

These cartridges are pretty efficient and don't require a really long barrel to get max velocity -- sure, they will get higher speed with a 10-inch barrel, but it's a revolver, meant to be carried. My .475 has a 7.5-inch barrel and I get 1,350 fps from my load. If it wasn't so damn accurate, I wouldn't run it so fast and drop the velocity into the 1,200 fps range. These calibers don't need lots of speed as they sling a big, heavy bullet.

When I am working in an area that I know, or suspect, to have feral hogs; I will carry my .500 on my belt. When hunting with my .500, it rides in the same holster. I have both hands free for climbing in and out of tree stands or other tasks and it is readily available. Just how handy is that?

One of these days I'll get a second 480, and cut it to 5".

The shorter barrel guns shoot just as well offhand as the longer barrel guns, I personally find the shoter guns balance better.

And many of us pack heavy six guns for defense against toothy critters, two legged miscreants, and hunting. The shorter guns are easier to pack than the longer ones.

You don't lose a whole lot of velocity for a few inches of barrel but one problem you need to overcome is barrel rise. It is faster and higher so you really need to sight them the way you will shoot them.
