Threads/Sites for heavy projie hunting loads in 1911 45ACP

Just looking to see what is out there that folks here at AR feel like are worthy of mention.

Hoping to use the knowledgeable here on AR to winnow through the chaff one might say.

For me it was all situational… I have used 230-255 grain hard cast from my 5” and 6” 1911s at 900+fps in 45acp +p and/or 45 Super cases with great success from my tree stands in VA at whitetail under 25 yards. This was my own self-imposed limit but was a fun switch when gun season started.

To summarize; I have found success the 1911 and the 45acp when I pick my shots within “reasonable” archery ranges.

I tend to be a bullet tester. I've killed about dozen deer with my Sig .45. Never tried Buffalo bore. 185 gr. Sierras & Gold Dots did poorly. 200 gr. H&G casts did fairly well. The #1 performer for me were 200 gr. Horn. XTPs. Every deer I shot with it out to 65 yds. went no more than 5 yds. Most dropped.

I shoot 45 Supers in an altered Block 21. 9" barrel, heavier recoil spring, and guide rod. Supers loaded into 45ACP+P cases, 230 to 250 gr case truncated cone, 231 powder if I remember right. The data came from a site which I can't remember. Will look in my saved file. No promises. I also bought Buffalo Bore flat point cast Supers. Have yet to use it on a whitetail deer. There were maybe 60 pages of loads and other comments. Many were using muzzle breaks that looked quite garish on the end of a pistol. But with the super you had enough gas to help break the muzzle rise. My 9" barrel makes it unnecessary. Be Well, Packy.

PROCEED WITH CAUTION, some of the loads given are way too hot in my opinion.

Probably more than you wanted to know.

Yes, caution. We had a Glock in .45 ACP blow up in one of our shooters' hands about a month ago. Frame split, trigger vanished, brass spatter cut the shooter's face and put a star in one of the lenses of his glasses.

I saw a S@W model 29 with a blown out cylinder.

Without some kind of explanation it doesn't mean a thing.

The explanation for the 29 was the two guys reloading for decided to push it until it blew.

They sent back to Smith and they gave them a new one.

I used to load for a guy who decided to start doing it himself + bought all the equipment. Soon after he blew up his model 19 + complained to RCBS that his scale was to blame. No questions asked, they sent him a new scale + Smith sent him a new revolver. Cheaper than a potential lawsuit. Personally, I would be willing to bet that beer was involved along with not paying attention. But accidents can happen.

Out of curiousity where were you hitting the deer to get such effective results ?
