New 500 Linebaugh
Just arrived after long wait. John Linebaugh built, white micarta grips by Dustin Linebaugh. Regulated for 450s@1100. Can't wait to go up against next year's elk and hopefully a moose!

Congrats! You have more than enough for elk and moose in your hand now.

Welcome! May I ask what you use for a rear sight? When you say 'regulated", at what range?
Thanks, Peter.

Congratulations Andy!

You are the proud owner of the "PERFECT PACKIN PISTOL" at least in my book. Nothing like simple, rugged and ruggedly simple. Looks like a 4 3/4" barrel?

450's at 1100 will do anything you'll ever need. Of course if you ever get bored with it, I'll send you my address......... Smiler

Peter,
When John built the gun he sighted it in 3 inches high at 50 yards with the 450 grain bullets at 1100 fps.
The rear sight is a square channel that is cut into the top strap. I will work up a lighter load probably a 410 at 850 or 900 fps that will have a similar point of impact for plinking. I'll save the big bullets for hunting and occasional range work.
This is my second John Linebaugh 500. My first one was an adjustable sighted blue gun 5 1/2" barrel, stock Ruger grips(Dustin sanded them to the frame). A few years later I had a Bisley Vaquero done by Dustin in 45 Colt similar to the Seyfried version. I liked it so well I let the 500 go.
In 2009, a good friend of mine had a Bisley Vaquero done in stainless that was a twin to Dustin's own 475. I shot it quite a bit on hogs in SW Georgia and decided if I got another 475 or 500 that is what I would get.

Andy,

That's a beautiful (and functional) hunting rig! Best of luck on the game in 2012!

That's a fantastic looking pistol. A single action big bore is on my list for 2012 acquisitions. What does she ride in for leather??

I am ordering a Northwest Hunter from Mike Barranti this week and have a 200AW from Milt Sparks due in June. Right now it's riding in a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake.

I'll look forward to seeing it. I've a few simply rugged pancakes as well as a barracuda and their workmanship is really great for the price!

Andy, is your .500 built on one of the newer compact Vaqueros, or the one of the original full-size Vaqueros?
04 January 2012, 06:07
Andy Shelton
OM,
it's on one of the full size (Old Model)vaqueros.
I know Hamilton Bowen is building 5 shot 45s and 44 mags on the new ones but they are not capable of handling the same stress as the full size models.
