drewhenrytntVelocity to stabilize 400 gr .454?
With a barrel that has a 1:25 or 1:26 rate of twist, what velocity will be necessary to stabilize a 400gr bullet from a .454 Casull chamber? I am posting herre and in the single shot rifle section as you guys seem to have more knowledge about this ctg. I have a Browning 1885 chambered for .454.

bfrshooterWith that rate of twist, I don't think you can come anywhere near fast enough.
Looks like a pencil pusher at Browning was fooling around with the Greenhill formula too. Or they have a dart board on the wall.

drewhenrytntRusty was kind enough to allow me to shoot some rounds over his chrono at the Shoot and Hoot. I didn't have any 400s but the other ammo I shot showed impressive gains over the nominal 7.5 inch barrels normally associated with this cartridge. So I am curious as to whether it would be a waste of money and time to try a REALLY heavy bullet and a powder suitable for a rifle length barrel.
