My VERY FIRST handgun buck!!

Eland SlayerMy VERY FIRST handgun buck!!
I was able to get my first whitetail buck ever with a handgun this morning. I actually went out trying for a doe, and this old fella stepped out. He was a perfect management buck. I took him at 25 yards from a pop-up blind using my S&W 629 .44 Mag with 300 gr. Federal Cast-Core ammunition.
I knew from his body (on the hoof) that he was an older buck, and definitely needed to be taken out of the herd. Judging by his teeth, I believe he is either 5.5 or 6.5....difficult to say for sure. I apologize for not having better photos of the teeth, but I didn't have a jaw removal tool with me, and rigor mortis had already taken affect so the jaw was not going to open much. He had quite a bit of wear on his 4th and 5th. What do you guys think?

Yessir....it is a Leupold FX-II (2x fixed power handgun scope). I have been very pleased with it.

Very good. Been debating a scope vs red dot on my S&W460.

SnowwolfeNice buck

As far as scopes go take a look at Ultradots. They are super tough and a great choice for a large bore handgun.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

I've actually been planning to replace the scope with an Ultradot. I am a big fan of red-dots, I just haven't gotten around to doing it.
In fact, this was the first time I've pulled that gun out for a hunt in 2 years.

Redhawk1Eland Slayer, congratulations on your buck. I also am a fan of red-dots on my handguns. I have replaced all but one of my handguns with the Ultra-dots. I gave up long distance handgun shooting, for a more up close experience. I have more fun hunting game, then just shooting game.
If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one.

Safari JamesCongrats on a nice buck with an iconic handgun. I've harvest a number of deer with that same setup. A scope on a handgun definitely reveals the "wiggles"!
