Bugle -- congratulations! Did you put the Hogue grips on it or is that now an option? Those are the grips that are on the Alaskan. I have a set on my SRH in Casull as well and they make a big difference. Hey forget those 250 grain loads! Go heavy! LOL!

Cogratulations again, tell us it shoots!

Thanks Whitworth!!!
The Hogue Grips came with the gun! I really like the way they feel! Definately a good grip! I am ready to go shoot it!
Don't worry about those 250gr bullets...

I'm curious about the Hogues.
Do the Hogue Tamer grips change the grip angle or the distance from the back of the grip to the trigger?
Are the Hogues real skinny?
Do your fingers fit in the groves well?
I've got a new SRH in 480. I have a GP-100 too and I put the normal Hogue overmold grip on it.
Those are pretty nice, but they have too big a lump on the rear of the grip and they feel too narrow to me.
I don't think Hogue's regular grip would feel good with a 480 but don't know how the Tamers compare.
2muchgun, how do you like the one ragged hole rear sight on your Bisley? I've never tried one, but they do look interesting.

Thanks for the info. I did some research on the web last night and found out about the SAV-3 trigger but haven't located one. I did remove the stock and apparently the gun has been shot very little and the stock was never removed. The gun was coated everywhere with cosmoline. I think the previous owner dumped it because of the nasty trigger.
After cleaning it up and figuring out what each screw does I adjusted the trigger and it's much better. I took all of the creep and overtravel out and lightened the pull. I haven't checked it with my electronic trigger gauge but it feels like it's around 2 pounds and it breaks clean. Tighter fitting pins would probably help with the transfer bar too.
I haven't shot it yet but I think I'm going to like it and I see a new scope in it's future.
Here's a couple pics of two of my favorites.

WhitworthFumbler -- they are the mono grips that come on the Alaskan. I just changed mine out and have only one range session under my belt with the new grips. They certainly feel a bit narrower than the stock grips, but I feel like I have much better control over the gun. Plus, it's simply not as unpleasant to shoot -- particularly with the 400 grain loads that I have been using lately. I didn't feel the grip change was as necessary on my .480 SRH as my SRH in Casull, because it just didn't kick as hard, but now that I have them on the .454, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

BuglemintodayWhiteworth,
How do you feel the Casull compares to the .480? My boss and I have been wondering...
Oh yeah we are speaking of factory ammo not reloads
"Let me start off with two words: Made in America"
09 May 2007, 05:58
WhitworthThat's a loaded question -- so to speak! I think the .480 has some advantages over the .454, the obvious being bullet diameter and the ability to sling heavy bullets -- don't get me wrong as I shoot 400 grain cast boolits in my Casull. The .480 even loaded hot doesn't kick like the .454 -- it torques in your hand whereas the Casull slaps your hand. Casull has the advantage of having a whole boatload of factory ammo available for it and well, the Casull fans will tell you that you can shoot .45 LC through it as well. But, there are some good loads from Grizzly and Buffalo Bore for the .480 that won't leave you needing much more. I recommend the Buff Bore 410 grain loads at 1200 fps........
Some will argue velocity and muzzle energy, but I'm not of that school. Pistol velocities are not going to ever be high enough to produce lots of muzzle energy, and I believe it's meaningless. Heavy bullets, moderate velocity = penetration. I prefer the .480 over the Casull, but it's just a personal preference. They both work well on game with heavy bullets.
That being said, my .480 is in the process of becoming a .475 Linebaugh.......I couldn't leave well enough alone.

BuglemintodayThanks for the info !
After finding my Casull and ordering I found a lil 6.5" Raging bull in a local pawnshop in good condition asking 485 out the door. It was chambered in .480 Ruger.
I was thinking I could pick it up in a week or two if it is still there for around $450 or less and make a little .475 linebaugh

and leaving the Taurus open sight and putting a scope on my Casull
We shall see

These pistols are addicting!

WhitworthRaging Bulls don't seem to kick in any caliber due to their porting. They're nice handguns. If you can get it for a song and a dance, I wouldn't pass it up......

It's a really good cartridge -- just load it with 410 grain Buffalo Bores and start taking down game!

BuglemintodayBill - Is there a trick to holding one of those without it hurting your hand?

I think it may just be the style of the grip or the size but ouch!

WhitworthI personally think that SAs handle recoil better than DA handguns........they roll up while a DA pushes back in the web of the hand......
Beautiful six-guns Bill!

I don't find the recoil to be oppressive, with two small points. The trigger guard on the bottom gun, the .44 Mag., can be dicey with heavy loads. And on the 45 Colts, the heavy Buffalo Bore load (325 grain) is not the most comfortable. With my standard loads (including the 300 grain BB), which have proved quite sufficient, they are a pleasure to shoot.

Bugle, very nice. How's it shooting for you?
Now you'll have to get into casting your own bullets and reloading.
Remember you don't always have to shoot top end loads. There's nothing wrong with a 265 SWC at 1000 fps.
Some people say the Super Redhawk is an ugly beast, but I've always liked it.
BTW I really like the Houge Mono-Grips for heavy recoil.

BuglemintodayThanks LAR !
Actually, this is the cheapest Factory ammo I could find! (@ $18.95/box!!) So I went ahead and purchased a bunch.
I love the way my SRH looks! The grips and etc help a little bit with the recoil! It is a very tame gun with the 250gr Win. Hollowpoints.
I decided I wasn't going to head out and get dies until I had shot the gun enough to get good with it and I figure once I go through all this ammo I should have a decent amount of brass to start out with.
I love how the energy will pickup and throw the metal targets at my silhouette range! Makes for an exciting evening

WhitworthI've got to say that if you are going to use factory loads to hunt with, I would seriously take a look at Double Tap's 400 grain loads. They shoot really accurately out of my SRH and they flatten game. The recoil will get your attention, though!

Where might I find those Double Taps? I have never heard of them before. Is it a gas checked lead bullet ?

Whitworth www.doubletapammo.com -- order it directly from them and you'll get it in a week. Because I no longer reload (planning to start again some day), I need good factory loads. I think 20 rounds of the stuff is 24 bucks.......Bang for the buck!
