WhitworthRECOIL -- and then some!

jwp475 has revolver chambered in .50 Alaskan and he says it's downright unpleasant to shoot!

SAFARIKIDOUCH!!! I must say that he couldnt have been holding it tight enough or keeping his arms stiff enough?! I have several of these in 50/110 and NEVER had that happen to me (yet!)..I am shooting 525s that chronied out of my custom 1886 at 2300+ in a 21" barrel!(458 Lott energies)I dont know what they are doing out of the handguns, but they do hurt the palm! If you are going to"wrestle a gator",get ready before she goes BAM!

WhitworthThat guy shooting happens to have a hellofalot of big-bore handgunning experience, it's just that the .50 Alaskan is a kickin' SOB and he let it ride!

That particular 50 Alaskan is lighter than a S&W and the speed at which it shoots big bullets is faster than a 500 S&W and the recoil is a lot more than a 500 S&W
As a matter of fact the 50 Alaskan in the photo above is made on a D-Max frame the pre-runner to the BFR and is lighter than a BFR.
That shooter shot most of the big bores that day and is no stranger to big bore handguns. The 50 Alaskan in the photo above has more than enough recoil for anyone.IMHO

Ok jwp475 ; With all my respect and without unworthiness (despise) the Gun or the shooter in the photo, a simple question;
Happens the same to You (the gun owner) every time that do You shoot with that revolver ?, I dont think so, otherwise I think will be a good idea to use a helmet when using that gun & ammo combination.Regards; Guillermo

There are some handguns that the recoil is a lot for even the most experienced hand gunner. My 4 inch 500 mag with the 700 gr. bullets is a recoiling SOB. I would never let anyone with little or no handgun experience shot it. As a matter of fact, I think that is where my fun meter gets pegged.
The guy in the picture actually looks very relaxed. That is just the recoil and it is a good way to show people there is no real way to control recoil, you just have to roll with it. That comes with experience.
If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one.

The revolver kicked free of the shooter left hand and IMHO the reason that it kicked free is that his hands are shorter than mine.
That was also the his first shot with that revolver.
Get anywhere close and I'll let you try it for your self. I believe that you will agree that the recoil is plenty

MS HitmanGuillermo,
No disrespect taken. I've been shooting big bore for a while now. Being right-handed and left eye dominant has kept me from getting rapped in the forehead many a time. The particular load being shot at the time was a 525 grain bullet knocking on 1600 fps at the muzzle; the revolver just kicks.
safarikid,
I hold them tight enough so I don't drop them, but not so tight as to put undo stress on my wrists. Tensing up too much just doesn't do anything for accuracy or my arms. Try and get a photo of your 50-100s in full recoil; it should prove interesting to see.
If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. We know who you are, so no reason to point yourselves out.
Any body that gets close to North Louisiana give me a shout and I'll let you hold on to it yourself and LIGHT ONE OFF.

Guillermo Amestoy7STDUBBERU; Amazing toy !!!, very nice indeed, thanks for sharing.
jwp475 , MS Hitman: Thank You for taking my comments in the right way, I really know that those Handcannons really kicks, but I agree with SAFARIKID & I think too, that the arms aren´t stiff enough, You are playing with fire relaxing too much Your arms,
What type of grip do You have in it?
Rubber finger grip or just smooth wood grip? Regards;Guillermo.

Jack Huntinton built the 50 Alaskan in the picture above, Jack also just completed a 50-110 Sherrif's model for Safarikid and. I just talked to Jack and he stated that my 50 Alskan revolver kicks harder than the 2" 50-110.
Maybe that will put it into perspective.
The sad part of the equation is despite shooting the same bullet nearly 500 FPS faster than my 500 Linebaugh revolver my 50 Alaskan does not penetrate any deeper than my 500 Linebaugh does

MS HitmanGuillermo,
The grips are wood. Thanks for the concern, but I just don't try to fight those things; haven't lost control of one yet. Hopefully one of these days I can visit with you in beautiful Argentina for a hunt.
We were shooting 640 grain APIs at 1700 fps from a friend's 15" Encore. That was invigorating when touched off.
Yeah, like jwp stated, the .500 Linebaugh using the same weight bullet penetrated the same distance with less recoil and noise.

Guillermo AmestoyMr. Hitman: Will be a pleasure for us if You visit some day our country

, We will received You with a Big BBQ

, and maybe You will try one of those Handcannons with a Water Bufalo. On July I will try one Buff in Corrientes with my S&W 500, Regards: Guille

WhitworthI thought the 975 grainer that he made had a jacket -- at least it looked that way in the photos he posted on shooter's (I think it was shooter's.....

).

The bullet is a 600 grain hollow point copper solid. I was given 20 by a member of SP to try out in my barrel.

Ok guys, is this supposed to be fun, or is this a case of "mine is bigger than yours"?
