whats the deal on New Vaquars ?
Are there differences in the new vaquaros . Not all are listed as CASS .
The old bisley vaquaros were great light weight big bore revolvers .

The new ones are smaller-framed. The new Vacquero in .45 Colt can't handle heavy loads like the old ones (which were just Blackhawks with fixed sights) could.

Anybody feel free to correct me, but they should all be legal for SASS.

CA guys wanted a Colt copy. Smaller, lighter gun.
Ruined a super Vaquero.

As far as I can tell, they all are. If you want the larger, stronger frame, you have to get a Blackhawk.

Ok. I just called Ruger Customer Service . They told me that the Vaquaro's are all made currently for the low pressure 45 Colt round .
The way to tell easily , without a caliper is the serial #
The Vaquaros made for the high pressure 45 Colt have a serial#
XX-XXXXX . 2 numbers dash then 5 numbers .

The new Vaquaros have XXX-XXXXX . 3 numbers dash then 5 numbers .

It is the same for the Bisley Vaquaro .

The original larger frame Vaqueros say "Vaquero" on the frame. The smaller frame new Vaqueros say "New Vaquero" on the frame. There are plenty of the larger frame Vaqueros on the used gun market if you're looking for a fixed sight revolver for "Ruger only" type loads.

It's just like Ruger to always screw up or discontinue a good thing.

I doubt they would have dropped or altered a product that was selling really well (at least if they were making a profit on it). The reality is probably that the majority of people who were buying Vaqueros were running standard low pressure .45 Colt loads in them, and wanted a lighter gun.
