I am considering having a 416 rigby bbl built for my encore.I have a 444 marlin for my contender,but I would like more!I want a 16 inch bbl ported.I dont think it would be too much to handle.I have shot the rigby in a ruger so I know how much they kick.If anyone has any input I would appreciate it.
and yes my wife thinks I'm NUTS!!

<Greg-montana>Well, let's see. They bring 66 foot pounds of recoil in about a 10 lb. rifle with 400 grain bullets. About twice that of a .300 Win Mag with 180 grain bullets. It's a good way to log some flight time if you are behind for the year....

Without question, a 416 Ribgy would successfully achieve that goal!

Yes, but the encore would weigh 1/2 as much, and be heald in your hand.
My suggestion would be to pick something in .458", .475" or .512" due to the availability of cast bullets for reasonably priced practice shooting.
What you really want is a 500 A-square 
just think, 600 gr @ 2000 fps+. If you're going big, go all the way!

<333-OKH>You might also want to use some sturdy wrist support, the 444 Marlin I had on a Contender had more torque than any other handcannon I had. I would think the 416 Rigby would be hard to keep from twisting.

Big BoreI know of one guy who had one and he said the recoil was not that much more than a hot loaded 45-70. With a case that holds over 100 gr. of powder, much of that slow burning powder is going to be wasted so be prepared for a nice muzzle flash, but don't be too intimidated by the 416 Rigby in a handgun. I shoot an Encore in 50 Alaskan and a Contender in 45-70 and would love to have a 416 Rigby to match my rifles in the same caliber. The only thing that has held me back is I just cannot convince myself that the Rigby would perform anywhere near as well in a short handgun as it does in a rifle, and that other cartridges are better suited for the shorter barrels of the same caliber.
